So I'm out with the fleet from our marina with my spiffy new DSC radio hooked up. The radio start begins (we are on channel 09) with the pre-race check to see if anyone is dropping out, still in the marina etc. and I reply with my "ready" statement, but recieve no acknowledgement. I think to myself - well that's rude, but no mind, I'm here to play.

We start the race, and do our thing, then toward the end I try to hail another boat and they don't answer me either. Now I begin thinking I have the pox or something. Finally, as we approach th emarina I yell to the other boat (it was just lunch plans anyway) and they ask why we don't hail them on the radio.

Long story short - our radio is recieving on all stations, but only transmitting on 16. Now at least we can hail our friends at the CG, but it seems bizarre that we can't send on other stations.

FWIW, the radio is a Standard Horizon, and the antenna, wire, and all fittings were all replaced with the base unit. Has anyone else run into this? Someone suggested that there may a lock on the radio that it only transmits on 16, or something similar. I haven't been able to find that.

If you have the dual watch feature, it may be that you can listen to 16 and another channel, but it will only transmit on 16. Try turning off the dual watch feature.

Sounds like you have some 'feature' set on the radio... you might try unplugging your DSC wiring and see how it behaves.

Nope - not dual watch.

I don't have the GPS hooked up, but will look into the DSC stuff a little more closely.

In the owners manual it does talk about being able to send but not recieve as an antenna issue, but since I can send and recieve, I don't think thats it. The other thing in the troubleshooting section of the manual is to be sure you aren't on a duplex channel - we tried on various channels, and still its a no-go.

If it were me, I'd call Standard Horizon and ask them why.

Have you tried both powers (low and high) on a non-transmitting channel? I too would give SH a call.
