Where is a good place to buy interior cushions for a 1988 Cat 25?
Has anyone used a local upholstery repair shop to redo existing cushions? We have some fabric we like that came with the boat when we bought it.

We had new cushions made at an auto upholstery shop (that also does some boat work). We could have used the original foam, but chose to go new (and thicker). I just made a drawing with measurements and got quotes from several shops.

Catalina Direct also does covers or complete cushions--dark green or medium blue velour, last time I checked. You send them your covers and they use them as patterns.

I'm having mine redone now by local shop. I purchased the fabric thru a friend at a wholesale place and got really comfortable, yet synthetic, scotchgarded fabrics for approx. $200

I replaced the v-berth cushions with a better sleeping density (35lb.) and 4" for a little less than $100

The v-berth work cost $200
the salon work using existing foam is going to be approx. $240

I've removed my aft berth, carpeted the area an use it for storage (the best thing I've done since buying the boat, never had a place for anything!!)

Most of the quotes I got from everyone from catalina to sailnet ranged from $1200 to $2200 and you had to send the cushions in but this was using the same foam.

That is a great idea! This past summer we went on a week-long cruise and to get more storage room we removed the aft quarter berth cushions. With the cushions removed, we were able to put 5 Rubbermaid storage boxes and a couple of coolers in that space. Since we don't use this berth for sleeping, I may do as you did and just lay carpet.

On my boat the engine, fuel tank, and holding tank are all on the port side so putting a little weight to starboard helps to even things out a bit.

Actually, I took that into account and all of the rubbermaid boxes that I use fit perfectly centerline behind the comp. stairs and the low ceiling of the cockpit floor is about an inch higher than them so they stay put (put some little adhesive rubber strips on bottoms) even in a 20 degree heel. This, on a swing keel, kinda works in my favor as well when single handing. As you swingers know, the boat was designed to lean forward when the keel is all the way down and two to four people in the cockpit level it out. This takes care of that for me. Even when my girlfriend comes out, she doesn't weigh anything (110), so we stay nice and balanced. The only thing that sits far s'board is my cooler. My water tanks are empty and have been for years. Although I do hope to get that system running again someday, I will only keep about 5 gallons in there as opposed to the 20 that ended up in my bilge!! UGH. It's always something, eh?

that's always been a junk/storage room for me! I am always scared to completely unload it for fear of what I might find that I stashed back there on the last long weekend cruise!<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

That's where my dog sleeps. I don't think she'd let me kick her out for storage! We have even started calling it "The Dog House."
