I was recently looking through the boaters world catalog and came accross an air condtioner, that sits at the front of a hatch , Ive seen these before, basically what it looks like is if you place an air condtioner just in front of the hatch, and then proceed to cover up the none covered areas with vinyl, or cloth a bag of sorts, I guess it works cause Ive seen a few around, So I guess what Im going to do ,is get one of those 5000 btu units and modify it a bit. What I have in mind is to install some snap fittings onto the air condtioner and then go to my local upholstery shop, which uses a very good quality marine vinyl, and snap a cover around the exposed area and fit a rubber mat under the base of the a/c. I aso will re position the power cord, or even possibly install a 110 plug close by in the cabin to plug it in. they sell these units for over 800 bucks , my way is about 150.00.
I've seen this done before and talked to the folks who did it and they were very happy with the outcome. If you attach a hose to the drain and put it over the rail you can keep the algae off the deck.
Before installing the AC on deck you might want to consider the installation that Frank Hopper did. I did the same and it works very well. Do a search and you will find pictures.

well would hate to think someone would do that,, but lets put it this way, if they do that,, they probably need it more than I do, and there gonna have to use it at another marina, its a 150.00 chance I am willing to take, I dont plan on lugging it around
