I originally installed a 25 gallon fuel tank in the aft berth for longer range cruising. As you are asking are you crazy?, It worked fine, but that voice in my head said don't do it..... I decided to change the tank to water for obvious reasons! So, here is the updated installation. Propane locker removed and water supply plumbed to the washdown hose. You can see the blaster pump in the top left of the pic. I also had a water pickup from the stern that is currently capped. When I get time, I will "T" valve the two, but for now it is 25 gallons for showering.

My boat squats at the stern when it's empty. Don't you have a problem with 400 pounds of water that far aft?

I think water wieghs about 8 per gallon, that's 200 lbs. It is countered by the water weight in the bow (30 gallons). I'm not too concerned about boat performance, since it is a bay and coastal cruiser.

What do you use for cooking?

Now I know not to just take any of John's calulations and trust they are right.

I use the water from the forward tanks for cooking. Typically a small amount in a pressure cooker works great. Have made some great one pan meals of chicken and rice, bbq pork and corn, pot roast and potatoes. Saves on propane and cleanup is quick. Always looking for EZ and EFicient, leaves more time for !

What fuels the stove since you removed the propane tank?

I use the camping cylinders under the sink. I think I may have posted a time back, not ABYC, but sitting on top of 6 gallons of gas takes a certain amount of faith! jmho

I installed a washdown pump in with the rear gas tank compartment (small 3 gallon tank for gas). I lower a water pickup hose out the back and use lake water as the source. Great for washing the decks and spraying nearby boaters when we race!
