Here are a few photos from last weekend at Payette lake in McCall Idaho.

This first one relates to another thread regarding travelers. Here's mine. The best improvement I've made to 45N.

This is my boat (on the right) TRWK #5608 (45 north). The boat on the left is SRWK #5614 Carpe Diem II. They were shipped to Idaho on the same truck from the Catalina factory in 1987. They've been on Payette Lake ever since.

Here we are getting motored by my buddy's J80... He'd doing about 7kt...we're at about 4.5.

Hi Bill

I know the traveler's not legal...(I still think is should be). I can switch it back in 5 minutes. I added it last year and love it.

By the way, I owe you a tee shirt...we didn't have 'em in '05 when you came out. Email me your address. anderson77_41@msn.com.

Bear lake is in southeastern Idaho. Payette lake is 100 miles north of Boise (north central mountains). It's a relatively small lake but big enough to race on and is a natural alpine lake. It's deep, cold, and pure enough to drink. Our marina is literally in downtown McCall... we walk for groceries, cafe's, stores etc.

Here's a link to our club website...on the links page, click on the Hotel McCall webcam...it pans the whole area.

If heaven ain't like this...I don't wanna go.

Give us some details on the traveller - I'd like to do the mod to my boat. I'll never sail in C25 Nationals but it would be great for local PHRF racing and just a performance upgrade.

Where did you buy the track, how much $ was the whole project, what is the parts list?

I think it would make a great tech tip in the Mainsheet.

By the way, the lake and your photos look GREAT!

That's a Harken windward sheeting car and the high track. That track is designed to span without support. They also make a low track (not designed to span). You'll also need the end caps for the track, stainless bolts to attach it control lines (different colors for stbd and port)and SS eyebolts to anchor the lines. The track will bend slightly so I didn't think I needed to shim it (it works perfectly). Access to bolts inside the cabin is not an issue in my track location. I used large fender and lock washers on each bolt.

As to price, I get a large discount through Ida Sailor Marine. They make great rudders (Rudder Craft) and beautiful laminated tillers. I'm not sure what the retail price is for what I installed. I bought it at Fisheries Supply in Seattle. They're online. They blow West Marine out of the water on everything...check 'em out.

The project isn't that expensive considering the result. Many companies make travelers and you don't necessarily need a windward sheeting car. Harken makes good stuff but they're really proud of it (if you know what I mean). You also don't need 4:1 blocks. There are lots of ways to do a traveler...I think the simplest way is always the best. I'm guessing you could get the job done from between $200 on the low side to $500 on the high side.

The track is not in the way in that location (for me anyway) going into the cabin. The idea is to keep it as low as possible and as close to the companionway as you can.

Keep all the stock traveler gear so you can switch it back if you have to for a race. Our club has several boats with this configuration so we allow the relocation for our club races.

I've found that not only is the boat more comfortable to sail, it's much safer (IMHO) when sailing by the lee. You don't have to worry about the mainsheet giving you a rope burn around your neck and ripping your hat and sunglasses off in an unintentional jibe. That's really an issue with my tall rig...the boom is a foot lower. (duck duck bonk). That's gonna leave a mark.

Give it a try...I'll bet you like it.

Andy, thanks for sharing "Heaven". I have never sailed on a lake and by the looks of it, I am missing a lot.
