Here are some pictures from Lake Mead Nevada. They were taken at the beginning of the year. The round concrete basin is where the gravel was washed at the batch plant. In this area is where the concrete was batched for the dam. In the middle pictures in the background was the area where the tent city was built for all the workers. I work for the Las Vegas Valley District and we had a meeting a while back. In that meeting we found that if the water keeps dropping that Hoover Dam will reach a point where it will not create power any more. Maybe by then they will build some desalination plants. I will keep taking pictures and let you all see it.

Lake Travis is dropping again too. As it is a flood control dam it rises and falls on a cycle, hard to predict, but somewhat on the schedule of El Nino. It's not that far down yet, maybe 12 feet. I don't mind so much, it makes the landscape interesting and it discourages the power boaters.

We seem to be very lucky, so far. for the last 2 weeks, we have been above summer pool level, and they have been letting water out of the spill gates, ostebsibly to aeriate(sp?) the water for the fish and water purification plants downstream.

The lake is about 125' below normal level. Over the largest manmade lake that is a lot of water. Right now they are letting Lake Mead take the biggest hit from the drought. Powell is almost up to normal levels, and Mojave is close to the same. I hope they do something soon or my dock will be at the dam.
