I wanted a bigger anchor 22# it just fits but you have to keep it neat so I made this out of wood for the rode . easy mod 1/4 " plywood on the bottom , 3/4 pieses on top . thought Id post it speeds up pulling in the rode .
Our second anchor is the 16lb Danforth, too big to put in the locker with the original anchor so I keep it hanging on the pulpit. The original anchor is never used.... too light and easily drags in the typical sandy bottom we have down here. How much rode and chain do you have on that thing?
Paul, 15'of chain 2oo of rode , I would like add a little more chain (50`total). I average 60` of scope on a nice day , and the rope is coming up muddy its dragging on the bottom .
we sleeped out last weekend and about 2:00am a thunder storm blew threw .it lasted a hour but they were very very strong winds (it shreaded my flag).first storm like that for us . the hand held gps said we stayed put no drag (sandy bottom to). good news to me ,I did not want to go up on deck , though I was dressed and ready life jacket on .
I drove motor cycles on the threw-way in the rain (bad), I havent figured out why the boat seems worse parked in that kind of weather .
Sean, I have 13# traditional WM fluke. I was wanting a 22# Delta as well as 2nd anchor but think that's a bit much for me to handle so thinking about dropping down to 14# Delta. But that make me wonder if that is sufficient or am I waisting my money. I was gonna add 20' 1/4ht chain with 200' 1/2 nylon. Your thoughts... Steve A
I think its how your going to use it . you dont need it till that one time you get caught out in weather . we push the envelope some week ends . and I wanted as big as I could fit the locker . we anchor out all the time , I have a danforth , and used to use a 14# delta it seams small to me , plenty of holding power Ive been out on windy days with the 14# and it was fine . its alot lighter to pull up too .fits in the locker better . but I never had that safe feeling .
longer chain because if your riding back and forth a rock or anything could cut the rode .
the 22# is not to bad to pull up (its still heavy) its my primary anchor . and I can sleep pretty good at night
it just fits if the rode is under it the locker wont close , more of a fuss to get in
FWIW, we have the standard (I assume) Danforth with 10' of chain & about 100' of 3/8 nylon rode. We also have a 22# Lewmar Claw with 25' of chain, and 300' of what I think is dacron rode. Both fit nicely into the anchor locker. I separate them by using a nylon bag to stuff the claw's rode into. That way I can deploy either if I want to. I've got a pulpit holder for the Danforth so I can get it out of the locker to make it easier to deal with, and we also installed a Windline AR-3 bow roller over the winter.
