I have the opportunity to buy this boat for $7500. It comes ready to sail. Pedestal steering, full cockpit bimini, good interior, 9.9 hp Johnson long shaft. Is this a good deal?? the onyl repair I see that it needs is to have the jib repaired by sewing a sunbrella cover on and to restich some of the threadwork. What do you think?? Dan
I think so. I paid 11,500 for my 1995 with tiller steering, no bimini and the same engine. Mine had brand new sails but it sounds like you are getting a real good deal.
Sounds like a great buy ! Not 100% up on the Cat 250 and specifics to inspect (ie. Water ballast, etc) but one thing that I would wonder about if you have not been able to do if the boat is presently in the water ...is the condition of the hull bottom - Any blisters or areas that have been repaired ?
I think it is a good deal also, just consider the logistics involved, trailer? tow vehicle? I had to put a new Genoa on my 95' W.B. just for the same reason as yours, only the sailmaker told me the rest of the stitching was deteriorating. Good Luck
If you know of a good trailer for a C25 Wing Keel let me know. I'm in Houston and want to be able to move the boat if we get a hurricane. Also it will allow me to do maintenance during the winter.
You haven't written the check yet? I'd make sure that the guy selling it actually owns it. I paid $17.5k for my '99 a year and a half ago. A NEW headsail will only cost another $700 or so.
If the boat is in reasonably good condition that is a good deal. nada.com has it selling for $11k - $12.5k. Of course, such a good deal may make you suspicious. As John says, make sure the paperwork is all good. I would also want someone who is familiar with sailboats to give it a lookover. Consider using a surveyor if you don't have an experienced sailing friend.
I just got back from the marina and got inside and inspected the entire boat. Got the 9.9 electric start Johnson fired up, tested the wiring and all was in working order. All the sheets and lines are in good shape, all the standing rigging was in good working order, no frayed wires. The interior was in good shape and jsut needs a good scrubbing, but wasnt that dirty. I have sent the ebay link so you can get a better idea about the boat
I inspected the water valve under the bottom step and I really have no idea waht I am looking for there. The gasket was pretty stuck to the fiberglass, but I was able to get it loos and open the valve, but I dont know how to see if it is full of water or not. Any idea? Any comments are apreciated.
How does the bottom look? See the recent thread about cleaning a bottom if it is in really heavily fouled shape.
If you open the valve and then go forward to the anchor locker you will find a small hole on the forward port side of the anchor locker(it may be actually in the forward centerline, I can't remember) There may be a plug in that line. Pull the plug. If air starts coming out, it is filling with water. I didn't trust that on my boat so a few weeks ago I went swimming and actually verified the valve on the bottom was open and nothing was blocking the hole. Another way to check would be to attach a pump to the vent line and make sure that when you pump air into it with the ballast valve open the boat rises on her lines.
Seems like a very good deal. I would have liked to have found a similar one. If you buy it, get some more pics of that bimini for us. When I was looking I was told to figure around 2000 if you plan to buy a trailer.

I have a couple of concerns.
This guy sold on eBay from 2003 to August 2006, when he suddenly received 100% grossly negative feedback from his buyers. Since this negative feedback episode, he hasn't sold anything on eBay.
Why were his buyers so unhappy? Why did he quit selling on eBay for the past 2 years (until now that he's offering this C250)?
The price seems too good to be true, and, of course, when the deal's too good to be true, it often is NOT true. How did he come to own this boat? Why is he selling it? How did he arrive at this price?
Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth, and I wish you the best of luck!
I had the same concerns as you and I appreciate what you are saying. He had a clear title in his name and the bank looked over all the documents and they felt it was a clean deal. We did the deal as of last night adn I have title in hand and a good boat with all the fixings. Took her out for the maiden voyage and had a blast. Now I need to figure out my comfort level with the darn thing. Like what is the highest wind conditions I can sail in. Dan
How do you check the water ballast bilge? There is no sign of moisture inside the boat or in the afte cabin area. No mold or mildew inside to suggest excessive moisture Dan
No moisture and a dry feeling is a good thing. But just to make sure stick your head down the bilge with a flashlight. The bilge is accessible through a little 1 foot square door behind the keel raising cables under the aft berth cushions.
