Just a note to thank all for the iformation that I have received from this forum, the people here are outstanding and courteous and have been a fantastic source of knowledge and information for me while I tested the waters of sailing I am sad to say that I have sold Dont Panic and am returning to the Dark Side,, sorry, but Its just not for me at this point of my life mainly not for sailing, but for the room I need. We always have friends at the marina and go out quite a bit, and theres just not enough room in a sailing cockpit or cabin for all. and I found myself getting more frustrated as time went on, I have found someone who bought this boat who is going to sail her to Canada from NY,,, wow I wish him the best, and again want to say thank you and I hope someday we can talk again, I will be looking at this forum from time to time later guys Oh, and one more thing, if it matters to anyone, my new boat is a Chris Craft,,,,,,, Catalina 25....cabin cruiser ironic
Well, I'll submit you're in good company! I can't say it was for precisely the same reasons--I've sailed for longer than you've been alive--circumstances changed a few years ago, and the cruising sailboat didn't fit into the program any more. (I still love to get out on a Sunfish, Laser, Beetle Cat, or somebody else's boat!) Sarge only sleeps two (just enough) but parties 10, and gets where we need to go (and back) in a hurry! Ironic that that's what I need now that I'm retired, but it's not my schedule that's driving things.
Enjoy your new "Catalina 25"! We're happy for you that you were able to sell quickly and easily! That's another advantage of the "real" Catalina 25. And BTW, thank you for taking our little jabs and incredulity about your steering system in good humor... It was unusual, and sailors tend to be traditionalists... But we loved your name--very creative! Should I watch for it going by Fisher's Island, or is he going up the Hudson?
The Chris-Craft Catalina has a great layout on good solid platform. I love the heavy D-Vee design. The only issue you may run into is if you got one with a GM (or worse OMC) motor. But, being a mechanic, it probably wouldn't be a big deal for you. These boats are easy to swap over to a Volvo because there is a lot of room in the engine bilge. Happy Trails Q. Tell that New Owner of Don't Panic to tune in to the Assoc. Forum. It
Glad your boat sold quickly. Looks like people selling boats on Ebay are having a hard time right now. we'll miss you, and your questions. good luck with your "new" boat.
Rock On! Nothing like a new boat. Go get um Captain! And it's a catalina 25! How funny... Right now in our family we are down to about 5 boats. Dad was in the Navy so we all caught the disease. My current powerboat: 1978 Stamas 21ft w/ cabin and evinrude Oceanpro 225hp. 2 tanks and it will run about 200 miles per fill up and down to 1.5 ft of draft. I'd rather be on a sailboat but hey.. Love the one your with!
