I am still new enough so that each year I still dont quite remember everything. I am trying to get the mainsail and boom on. There is something that slides in the track on the mast with screw to secure it. On the manual it looks like the boom stop. But I need something to stop the sail also. I wondered if I had been using the boom stop in the past. It seems to me you need two of these gadjets. One for the boom and one for the sail. I went out and bought a sail stop which looks similar to the boom stop. I will try again tomorrow.

The boom will stop the sail if the boom stop is in place to stop the boom. (Huh?) What you might want are mast gates to keep the sail from sliding out of the kerf while lowering the sail.
One should be all you need since you have a downhaul line that attaches to the bottom of the boom that will hold it down when under sail. If you just want to hold the boom up for sail install then two is your answer. Just make sure it is far enough down that when the sail is up you can apply downward pressure with the downhaul line to tighten the luff.
Not clear, the boom stop prevents the boom from being picked-up the mast when you tighten the main halyard...what would a second stop prevent? The tack is supposed to be secured to the boom by a pin through a grommet into a cast fitting...why would you need another stop?
I had a sail-stop under the boom to hold it up when I dropped the sail, and as Frog said, it needs to be positioned to allow tensioning the luff... I used another stop for the slugs, but then went to gate plates--much better for reefing.
Now I am confused. I wish I had a picture. I thought the boom stop went below the boom to keep it up. Then it seemed I needed something under the sail slugs to keep them in the track.
