Our winch started to squeak when lowering the keel this w/e . I've searched previous threads, but find no advice on lubricating the winch - the owners manual does not provide any direction either. I know to avoid the brake pads, but am unclear on the best procedure. Any recommendations?

I'd recommend just oiling the shaft that the drum rotates on, just be careful not to get oil on the brake pads.

Gary B's suggestion is safe enough to apply. Focus the a small amount on the shaft of the winch and test.

Avoid applying a large amount that would cause the lubricant to drip.

Let us know if it resolved the squeak. I couldnt find anything on the web yet regarding the pads as per your question.

The pads are usually on the input shaft - the one the handle attaches to.
