Wow, that's bizarre, why would someone in distress attack his rescuers?

Alcohol/drug induced behavior. My guess.

I feel sorry for the cops, they'll have to deal with this for the rest of their lives. I also can't blame them for shooting the guy. I'd have shot him too if he already had a tazer and was trying to get my partner's gun after he was down. Sounds like PCP behavior to me.

Mental health is a fragile thing. Suicide by cop after a failed attempt at drowning crossed my mind as I read it, too.

Plenty of Freak Stuff there, but the news article says he was only 500 ft from shore, and heading that way, and declined to be rescued. so they pulled him out of the water anyway.

it doesn't sound like a suicide, it sounds like he was dosed with drugs on a boat full of **** and wanted off.

weird world

The Medical Examiner report came today and said he had 4 kinds of drugs in his system and listed cause of death as a gunshot to the back.

Still no insight into this strange case. My personal feeling is that the officers were justified in use of deadly force.

Intereting name of the yacht cited in the followup news story--'Hornblower Inspiration.'

I know it's considered bad luck to change a boat's name, but under the circumstances...
