I was looking at my 150 Genoa sail going through a tack and notice that it is slowed down by the lifeline and the front stanton. I am also noticing a little bit of wear from the stanton. I saw a set of rollers in the West marine catalog. I wondered if anyone has used them or has come up with a cheaper mod?
Any other ideas on subject on the Genoa tacking would be great also.
Chris - I have those wheels on the lifeline immediately in front of the forward stanchion. They work well especially if you let the genoa backwind during the tack, it comes over much quicker. I also have them on the upper shrouds immediately below the spreaders. Also on the forward lowers I have 1" PVC pipe as a shroud roller - it's a much cheaper fix than WM's!
I did the 1" PVC last night when I was down at the boat. I will take some pictures of the final mod of them. I think I came up with a unique way of doing it.
How Long did you make your pipe? Each of mine were about 4 1/2' tall. I wasn't sure how long I should go. This was alll I had at the time.
I hadn't thought of putting rollers on the lifeline, interesting! I use 1-1/2" PVC pipe on my forward lower shrouds. Bought a 10' piece at HD and just cut it in half and sanded the ends smooth. They are easier to get over the turnbuckles than 1" pipe, roll around the shrouds very well, and provide a nice hand hold when climbing on the boat from the dock. I've also seen combinations, such as 1-1/2" x 12" piece on the bottom covering the turnbuckle joined to a 1" x 4'long section on top, but that seems like a lot of unnecessary work to me.
