One reason I sold my last boat (a Prec 21) was the discomfort of sitting below and having my head hit the side of the cabin where it juts in to form the cabin side. When I looked at the C25 I bought a few months ago, it was full of junk and I guess I was so excited about the new boat I didn't pay enough attention. Now I have the same problem. I'm not abnormally tall, about 6'1" but cant sit up straight in this boat. I've wondered about shifting the seat towards the center of the boat a few inches, also bringing out the backrest. I've got the swing keel trunk there and haven't really analysed it that close. Has anybody tried such a thing? I remember someone putting storage behind the seat, but my searches haven't found that description again. Did that move the whole seat out? help with head room? do I need a bigger boat?

The "furniture" is all part of the hull liner molding. I suppose you could build out from it with some studs and plywood... Sounds like you need a C-250 with its full-width cabin trunk and no encroaching side-decks.

There is an obscure interior called the L, essentially the port settee makes the turn along the main bulkhead on over the top of the keel trunk. That makes it so you can lean against the bulkhead instead of the side of the boat. Build a settee extension to do that and see how you like it. I think when I played with that idea I used the v-berth insert as a cushion and slid a tall Oscar cooler in the gap between the settee and the keel trunk. I liked it, It also allows you to put your feet up.

My boat is one of those "obscure and exotic" L-shaped settee designs with a pedestal table, and Frank is right that the end (forward) seat has lots of headroom. The cabin is a few inches wider than my friend's SK, he and I agree. You could add a seat over the keel trunk in your SK cabin.

As another simple solution for your "mainstream and dishwater-dull" SK cabin , you could just add a few, loose, back cushions with swashbuckling. maritime patterns, and then lean back in comfort. Ahhhhh!

It follows the KISS principle, too.

The L idea sounds good, I am going to explore it this weekend. I have doubts Iwill ever make much use of my dinette table, so maybe there is some way to bring a backrest or cushion around also.

Maybe you just need a C25 with the dinette layout that provides two benches running athwartship.

the dinette interior would probably be better for me, that's what I had on an old C22 20 yrs ago. But I got what I got and maybe I can do something reasonable or just stay topsides under the bimini and not worry about it. john - I would like to see a picture of the exotic L if you have one, I hadn't heard of that layout.

Steve, I had an c22 20 years plus ago too and had the same dinette table that folded up. I really loved it. Wish my C250 had same setup. I hate that extra large table I have now. The old dinette was cozier.

I use extra cushions behind my back.
Also, I have a folding canvas directors' chair (camp chair) that folds up nicely, that I use in the cabin, it sits nicely at the bottom of the steps and can be pulled up to the end of the table. I have a piece of carpet that I put under the leg that sets in a concave part of the floor.

I like Joe's pictures, his boat looks so comfortable, but I was trying to figure out what he meant would help? I decided it must be the sandwiches, because they look really good.

I meant "I hope the pictures help".

The sandwich maker was an after-market add-on. It only costs half your income for the rest of your life.

Hopefully said sandwich-maker has a sense of humor if she stumbles upon this thread. :>)
