I have to go to San Diego Wednesday to Friday. I am looking for a place that I can take my jib sail and see if she can be repaired. Does anyone know of a place down there. Thanks
While I've never taken sails to North in SD, I have been to their shop. Very nice folks. I was looking for some cut offs to repair one of the sails on my catamaran, they were more than glad to unload trash bags full of giant cutoffs of sail material, all I wanted to take, and they offered advice on how to do the repair, which seems contradictory to their business, but there it is.
Not to be contrary, but cutoffs are what we used to make out of our jeans for summer wear when we were kids <grin>. Scraps are left over from cutting out sail panels, nothing is really a scrap until it's too small to make something from, or too small to make a repair. :)
Well I took my sail to North Sail in San Diego. I must say a bunch of really nice people. The looked at the sail and estimate it will cost $450 to make the repairs and add a sunbrella material to the sail for protection. They are also working on an price for a new sail. So my question is do I repair of buy new. Does anyone know of a place to get a new headsail. Thanks
I got new C22 sails from catalinadirect.com and was very happy with them. Catalina also sells sails. I'd think seriously about buying a new foresail rather than putting $450 into an older sail. I'm sure you'll get other good suggestions for a source for new sails.
I have found a few sites that when the ask of the boat model only have Catalina 25 no 250. Is there a differance in the sails. Do the sails go by a measurement?
The sails are different I'm sure. In your owners manual it lists the dimensions of the standard jib. I am sure Catalina can get you more info and would be a good source for the sail.
I bought a new 135% from National Sail for about $725. Great sail, Great price. They didn't list a C250 but, was very clear when I called them and they came through without a problem. It's a Rolly Tasker sail made in Thailand.
I found the measurements in the manual but what if I want a bigger sail. If I have to buy a new headsail why not get one bigger than the standard jib. I am thinking a 115 or 135. The 150 will be too big for my needs. Does anyone have any suggestions?
John was your 135 a roller furler and if so did you have to tell them the type of furler you have? Thanks
I spoke to Catalina today. They were very nice and helpful. The new 135 sail is $930 and the 115 which is what I have is $785.00. Compared to the $450 to repair. Not sure if I will go with the 135 or not. The guy said that he needs a measurement of the car. I am not sure what that is and if I have one. If you could help me out that would be great. Any pictures will help as well.
I'm puzzled why Catalina would not know the exact dimensions. The only car I know of is the jib track car pictured here.
The jib sheets run through these cars, one on each side, but that seems so standard that I don't see what measurement they would want. There were different placements of the jib track so maybe that is what they need.
Randy, I agree with you. The picture you have is what I have for the jib. I would just adjust the car location for the genoa. I will have to call him back and see what I can ind out. I am also looking at other places for a sail $930 is a little high right now. I saw one at National a 135 furler fro $785. I will see what I can find out.
