I need help finding a replacement light bulb for the stern light. This is an original stern light and had a festoon??? bulb about 1 1/2" long. Mine broke. What I would really like to do is replace it with an LED bulb. Does anyone know where I can find either the original replacement bulb or a LED replacement?
On a related topic, I'm looking for a 12v bulb with a medium screw in base either halogen or LED for inside a spot fixture about 2 inches in diameter.
Thanks

I bought light fixtures at West Marine. The fixtures were about $50. I bought universal 1 inch pulpit mounts, these were $25 and took some engineering to get to work.
The lights are 100 times brighter. The stern light on a 1978 shone right in the helmsman's eyes, the new mount up on the pulpit preserves your vision. The bow had 2 lights (red and green) now has only 1. I believe the halogen bulbs draw 1.25 amps. Put I have only 2 instead of 3. I've never so far needed to buy a replacement bulb but I believe they are about $6.
Up on the bow, I have the light mounted down really low on the starboard side of the pulpit. Up high, or in the center, it can catch on the spinnaker. I have not run my lights inside the pulpit pipes, but they do drop down through proper deck fittings. On the bow I had to run all new wiring to the switch panel- this was not fun. On the stern I was able to tie into the existing wires.
The stock lights on the boat were totally insufficent.
You can also get the festoon bulbs in a pkg of 2 from West marine. I have a 10 watt and you probably do as well but bring the bulb in and match it up. They cost about $2.00. As far as an LED bulb, I have not seen any that are made to replace the stern festoon bulb. I have LEDs that replaced my cabin festoons but they do not throw enough light nor same spread as needed for the stern light. An LED w/housing is an alternative replacing the stern light but as was mentioned, it is a more costly ordeal. Also, you may have some hookup mods to make. Aqua Signal makes an LED Stern light and it is more reasonable than some I have seen. West marine carries that as well...believe it was around $50-$60 but I could be off. Just that it does not have same bracket mount as my existing Aqua Signal.
One thing to be careful of, if you replace it with a standard incandescent bulb, keep the wattage low. The location of the stern light is down low, and if you're sailing at night with the light on, and lay your arm on the metal cover of the light, you can get a pretty nasty burn. The higher the wattage, the hotter it will burn and the bigger surprise when you lay your arm on it. Finding an LED would be great. Let us know if you locate one.
Approximate power usage is 120 mA. With an equivalency of 140 lumens. Made out of aluminum this festoon is very durable. 12 VDC. Shock and Vibration proof. Instant on/off. monocrhomatic (pure) color. low heat. virtually unbreakable. 12 VDC. Available in Super White. Aluminum also provides excellent heat sinking. Approximate size is 10mm in width.
I found another festoon LED that is made specifically to replace the festoon in the Aqua Signal 25 housing...at least that is what the marketing says. I may buy one of them. Here's the link and one picture of it:
But it expensive..the below link indicates $59. However, unlike just getting an LED Festoon which may be more fitting to use in the cabin, these are specifically made for the Aqua Signal as a naviagtion light. http://us.binnacle.com/product_info.php?products_id=5641
I found another source for a LED lightbulb to replace the bulb in an AquaSignal 25 Stern housing - At the Annapolis Sailboat Show, there was a booth for www.mastlight.com. They had an LED replacement for $25. It supposedly has the candlebar exceeding that of the original AquaSignal 25 bilb and the demo setup they had at the booth...it certainly seemed bright enough. I decided to buy it - It was $25. Here's the link specific for this bulb:
