At the back end of the boom, there are two lines coming out. What is the purpose of those two lines?

Thanks,

Fleet

1. Outhaul
2. Reef (or topping lift, or whatever you want to use it for - no reef in my main).

Good Question!
My boat has an outhaul slug attached to a short piece of wire PLUS two other sheeves and two jam cleats on the boom with slots for feeds from within the boom.
My outhaul is lead down the mast to a couple of deck turning block then to a 6 to 1 set of blocks that ends in the cockpit. I know this is not a factory setup and it is a bit troublesome when adjusting the sail height or reefing etc. but it sure has some leverage for flattening the sail during high wind loads.
I use one of the sheaves for the reefing, but haven't figure out a use for the other yet, maybe a second reef if my sail had one.

Joe:

Definitely not a factory outhaul setup. I think off-the-shelf the CP25 came with a 4:1 internal to the boom. A lot of people have upgraded that to a 6:1 internal.

I think those slots/jam cleats are for the reef lines.

Took a closer look at my boom yesterday while pulling the boat for the winter :(. In my case there are 2 sheaves at the aft end of the boom - 1 I used for the outhaul, the other gets tied to the backstay as a boom tie (fake topping lift) - obviously not stock use for this sheave.

Were I to have a reef line in the main, there's a block on the side of the boom to handle that line. I suspect I was thinking of my CP26 where the aft main reef line DID go thru the end of the boom. Not as efficient as directly below the reef point, however functional (that boat got reefed a LOT).

My setup appears to be like Joe's. Outhaul slug on a short piece of wire. I can use one of the back sheaves for reefing and use the other as a topping lift/backstay connection. Makes sense. Thanks

if you look at the boom detailed drawing from Catalina the starboard side is the outhaul, the port side is for reeding the main
