I am in the process of looking for a 22-25' sailboat. There are many out there but my question is, where do you find trailers?

New trailers seem expensive, but I do not see many ads around for used ones. Are they sold at marinas, a website, a specific publication?

Also, are sailboat trailers differnt from powerboat trailers? What are some things to look for?

Thank you for your help.<img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

You are correct...new trailers are very costly. The advantage you have is many C25's and C22's were sold on trailers and should be re-sold with the trailer. Since you are on the east coast I would suggest looking around nearby inland lakes and even as far out as the Great Lakes region since many of these boat come out of the water and spend the winter on a trailer vs jack stands.
We are fairly nomadic due to my spouse being in the Air Force so having a trailer is a must for us since we move every 4-5 years. I would also suggest a roller type trailer vs bunks. The roller trailers that came from Trail-Rite under many C25s are very nice and make launching/retrieval much easier. Good luck in your search....

New trailers are expensive, I paid 5.5k for my fin keel trailer. If you opt for a used one be sure to have it inspected for any rust or breakage. Some trailers I have seen look fine from the outside, but if you can look inside the tubes they are mostly rust. A fresh water trailer would be a better bet in this case.
There are differenced between power boat trailers and sail boat ones. I have heard of some people converting them. Be sure that who ever does this is a competant welder, never mind speller. Also having a trailer to copy from would help a lot. One of the people in our club had his dad build a trailer by copying another one. He saved a lot of money doing this and got a much better trailer than a factory one for a smaller price.
hope this helps.

I recently purchased a new Catalina 250 with a trailer. The new trailer cost me 5k. I'm happy to sell it to you for less if you would like it. E-mail me at bill.swanson@verizon.net if you are interested.
