I have a 25 Catalina swing keel and am always having trouble with the winch When Im Loring the keel. Ive had the boat two years and put on to winchs I was thinking about putting on a trailer wench for about 3500 pounds. Would like to know if anybody could give me some of vice on what to do with the situation. My e-mail address is Don James 6398@ AOL.com hope to hear from you soon Don James
If you have a problem with your swing keel winch, you gotta call Catalina Yachts and order a new one pronto. The winches they sell are made to lower that 1500 pound piece of metal slowly, as it even has brake liners inside!
One thing you don't want to do is lose the cable due to a faulty winch!
When you replace it, be sure to keep the old bolts, because, depending on the age of your boat the holes and bolts will probably not match up.
