I saw this USB TV Tuner on HP's web site.

I thought it might be a good option since a laptop already has the DVD player. I am a big fan of having a single device.

We used a Pinnacle Systems USB card with great results on our mega laptop. We did find that it was more sensitive than our new 7 inch TV. Sometimes it would freeze, whatever... But for a hundred bucks we had a remote and TV on the laptop - just sucked too much power! Hanging on the hook for several days with a lot of TV consumption meant for drained batteries, hence our switch to a smaller portable stand alone product.
