Forgot the important part: If Frank Hopper is still eligible (he did own a C-25 for part of the year), I will nominate him for TGOTY in his last year of eligibility. His vast storehouse of articles and photos, experience, and willingness to share has helped many of us.
I guess their mileage wasn't in 2008, but as long as we're giving out "awards", I think Henk & Johanna should get the "Road-Warrior Emeritus" or the "Lifetime Road Warrior Achievement" award for dragging their C-250 around N. America, and their contributions to the association along the way. We may never see the likes of that again!
Dave B., thank you so much for the nomination but I am no longer a member of the Association, I am just hanging around because of the great people here. (The Hobie board is lame) All of the awards should probably go to members with 5 years or less in the Association, they are the ones who make this board interesting and dynamic.
Here's my year (so far) in a nutshell:- Frostbite Regatta (3 races)- 1st Spring Series (6 races, 2 throwouts) 1st Summer Series (6 races) 1st Wurstfest Regatta (4 races, no throwouts) 1st. Tour De Canyon (long distance) 1st also won Patriot Series (4 races) on a Precision 23. Masters Regatta - cancelled, too much wind (25 - 30 knots) Wild Turkey Regatta (yesterday) cancelled, wind 30k+ Couldn't race Fall Series. Still to come the Winter Series.

I'm surprised they're still willing to race with you, Derek.
For those who might not be aware, how many C25s have you either skippered or crewed to win C25 National Championships?

Indiscipline nailed down a solid 2nd place finish yesterday in the Turkey Day Regatta, the final race of the season. This makes 3 seconds, and 3 thirds this season, plus a couple of 5, 6, and 7s. Consistently second to a Catalina 27 in a fleet composed of me (smallest - slowest) up to and including full race preped Cat 36s.
I'll have to see but for sure I've locked up 4th place for the year and maybe just enough to slip into 3rd or tied for 3rd.
So my race season:
4th place for the season in the All Catalina San Diego Association (maybe 3rd) - out of 12. This was a 10 race series - 4 distance races, 6 buoy races.
10th place out of 16 in the Regatta de los Todos Santos (my first Mexico hosted race). Medium distance race.
10th place in San Diego - Ensenada PHRF 5 out of 11. 3rd Place in double handed division - out of 3. Long distance overnight race.
3rd place in PHRF B Oceanside to San Diego (5 boats). Nice trophy!
7th place (last) in PHRF 5 San Diego fall race around the Coronado Islands. Distance race.
5th place in PHRF 5 San Diego spring race around the Coronado Islands (I think of about 8 boats). Distance race.
Can't remember results in the New Year's Day race - probably last in PHRF 5.
Jim - that's pretty impressive for off-shore racing in a relatively small boat. (Remember that I race on a usually peaceful lake - although this year we have had far too many days with very high winds.) It hit at least 40k in the marina Friday night BTW I helmed Vern Gagnon's SR to victory in the 2000 Nationals on Great Salt Lake, was tactitian and genoa trimmer for Alice Patten's TR on the Columbia in 2003(?) and skippered This Side Up to a TR victory on Lake Cheney in 2004. However, I think I am still 2 championships behind Steve Milby!
This is also my first full year racing! I really enjoyed it and I've become a much better sailor. I also practice more than anyone so I expect to win starts, I expect to have fast clean spin sets, gybes and douses, I expect to have tight fast roundings, I expect to have the fastest tacks.
I crew on other people's boats, too, and I've learned a lot from everyone of them.
Having the slowest PHRF boat in the All Catalina Fleet is one thing, and I can hang with these people/boats. In the San Diego open PHRF-5 (boats rated 150 and above), being the smallest and slowest gets you toasted, especially in the long distance offshore races which are those I prefer.
Jim, How about starting a list of personal "firsts" in 2008. Most of us are dedicated to becoming better sailors even if our skill levels range from "deckhand" to "master marine consultant". This forum has documented some wonderful firsts, but each step we individually take towards becoming a better and more competent skipper or crew member is what it is really all about. I certainly did not accomplish all that I had hoped for, but still had a good season. Probably the highlight was sailing for the first time in 20 Kt winds with the Admiral. Twice no less and it worked out great; no heeling. I also sailed single handed more than in any year past. These certainly are not as exciting as "Sailor of the year" accomplishments, but for me, what a rush. I love my C25.

Gerry... Just out of curiosity, which is it, SR (standard rig) or TR (tall rig)? BTW, congratulations--that's what it's all about!
Dave - OK so what's a little ambiguity ...I assumed the order of designation was rigging/keel/interior, so in our case standard rig/ wing keel/ traditional interior. If there is a less confusing approach let me know.
Ok, I'll throw my 2008 results in too - just for grins.
Chatfield Open: 3rd of 13. The U20's didnt fleet and got put in with us, and we lost out to 2 of 'em. 2nd place beat us by 1pt, 19 to 20. 1st was probably one of the best-sailed boats in the state, 10pts. 7 races, we had one 1st and two 2nd.
Spring Series: 1st of 3. Really doesnt count, since one of the three (S2 7.9) was dismasted early on and the other (one off race-o-matic Freedom Boat Works F-240s - http://www.freedomboatworks.net/f240s/f240s.html) didnt show up until the last 4 (of 10) races. However, we beat them each race we were both in. We missed R8 due to a failing gooseneck. We'd been racing on it anyway and limping it along, however winds that day were 20+ so we stayed home. Nine "1st"s and one DNC.
Summer Series: 1st of 7. More competition this time, including the F240s again as well as the S2 with a new stick. We DNF'd R1 by busting our tiller in 15G30 and steering back on the rudder post. Figured the F240 would finally beat us, however it sunk during the race. Wouldnt wish that on anybody, and fortunately all crew were ok. Heard the boat suffered major damage when pulled out. DFL'd R2 with some serious spin issues. FD counted 5 wraps of the headstay. Took 1st in 5 of the next 7 races to take the series. 1st thru 3rd came down to the last race - love tight racing like that!
Columbus Day: 3rd of 4. Very rainy and cold weekend, a lot of folks bailed out. In 7 races we had 5 2nds, but couldnt put anything worthy together. We had 17pts, 1st and 2nd both with 16.
Non-CP25 results: Carter Open: 3rd of 8 crewing on a CP22. Dillon Open: 1st of 6 in the biggest regatta in the area, crewing on a friends J/80.
Looking to pick up a truck during the off-season, so may travel with the CP25 more. Time for new sails, too...
Oh Dave! It's the same as virtually every other C25 TRFK in the Country...However, it is (almost) dry sailed - only 80% of the keel is in the water and I do have damn good crew - I just steer the boat and do what they tell me!
