Gotta question for anyone who knows anything about spinnaker sails. A guy offered me a deal for his spinnaker sail and accessories. It's in new condition. It's for a 27ft boat, but he thought it might be fine to use on my cat25. Any suggestions or advise on this?

Hi KB,

I've been wondering the same thing ... i.e. how much "slop" (if any) is there in the recommended dimensions. You didn't mention whether you have a standard rig or a tall rig ... here is the page from the tech manual with the dimensions for both:

It depends on the type of spinaker and the deck to mastehead height of the 27 footer.

I run a tri-radial racing spinaker that is undersized for a c-25 (its an old J-24. Oversized would be a little tougher but do-able. It all depends on exactly how oversized it is.

Duane- do you use a pole? I assume you take a jib halyard to act as the topping lift for the pole? Do you have a foreguy? If so how is it set?

I am curious, as my boat did not come with a spinnaker set up.

Okay, I am pretty sure I have a standard rig. The size of the sail is 33 1/2ft Luff and 18 1/2ft Foot. So it's oversized at the luff from 3ft-2 1/2in. (standard rig) to 2ft-5in (tall rig) and the Foot looks within inches for either rig...

I rigged a separate topping lift for the pole about half way between the spreaders and the top of the mast (rough estimate). I also rigged a foreguy to come from the base of the mast. both run aft back to the cockpit. For the sheets/guys, I have to lines (with shackles running aft to turning blocks at the very end of the jib tracks. I us a twing system, with a really lightweight snatch block...(I have posted this before and most people think of a 1/2 pound snap shackle from the days of yore....this is not what I mean.)
This is similar to the carbo ti-lite from harken but it is a snatch block. You might want to check out the following. I realize Harken isn't exactly in everybody's budget....but they offer great advice.

2 feet adds a heck of a lot of square footage....you might be able to keep this full in moderate wind conditions, however really strong winds will kick you in the behind....
