My Capri which I purchased four years ago was out of the water for six years. In that time water had rusted out the threads where the lifting eye goes so that only about the bottom three or four threads were holding. Needless to say.I've been using slings. Has anyone had experience with makeing up a lifting adapter using the keel bolts? Ulman sails told me this would work fine.
If you'll send me your email address, I'll send you a couple of pictures of how I lift "Spirit". I've got the two sternmost keel nuts saved "somewhere". They have been replaced by two eye nuts of ordinary steel. I'll probably swap for stainless some day, but these haven't rusted away, yet. Each eye nut accepts a hook (with a latch so it doesn't come un-hooked when you don't want it to) attached to a hardened chain. Each of the two chains is strong enough to hold the boat by itself. Even hardened chains aren't expensive, so there are two. They are attached to a galvanized ring, sort of a triangular shape. The threads of my lifting eye receptacle are also AWOL. I've used this arrangement for 6 months since last April. I didn't use anything in August or September. My boat and I were hiding from Ike.
