I bought my C25 used and there is hardware that I'm guessing the previous owner installed towards the rear of the cockpit that I can't figure out for the life of me. I am guessing that it may be some sort of steering lash up, but even then I'm not sure what to do with it.

I've put a under-a-minute video that points this mysterious stuff out here:

Any thoughts are really appreciated...

Rod,
Those are most likely blocks for controlling a spinnaker, unless you're talking about the plastic uprights with the vertical hole in them, those I have no clue. It looked like you had clam cleats further up your rail where you could cleat off your spinnaker sheets. Bear in mind that I have a 250, so I'm not all that familiar with the 25's layout.

What's Software on Sailboats about? Need any test engineers?

How did you get the helmsman that transparent. I just about can't see anyone steering. Good job getting it balanced.

Thanks guys. Yeah, its the plastic upright thing, blocks, and little hoops - as a group - that has me baffled. The blocks seem too small for any type of sheet...

The invisible helmsman in the video was singlehanded sheer luck. You can reasonably argue as many have that the helmsman/cameraman on this vessel consistently adds little or no value.

Did that boat by any chance come from New York and have a bright yellow hull? (Sorry--inside joke.)

I had the exact thing on my boat. It was a mount for the antenna. I had one on each sided.
Don't know what the blocks are for.

Where is your running backstay and tackle? If those were made of aluminum castings I would say that they were mounted as alternative purchase points for the running backstays. But I do not see the stays so I am wondering if they were removed altogether. Which would also explain the deckeyes. They also may have been for non adjustible split backstays. Heck...I don't know. But, I do know that the blocks are for handling a spinnaker.

I agree, the plastic upright thing on the port side is most likely a mount for an antennae. The blocks are turning blocks for your spinnaker sheets, or maybe a 170 genoa. The pad eyes are most likely anchor points for the aft bimini straps, IMHO.

Thanks for all the responses! This is an amazing pool of knowledge and insight. Now I have a pretty good idea of what to pry off and what to leave on.

The Invisible Helmsman sails on!
