I haven't posted in a few weeks and one of the members e-mailed me to see if all was OK. Wow, what a great online community where people look out for one another.
Well, I am fine. Spent the last several weeks researching HD TVs and Blu Ray players for my birthday. Now I've got a great new home video system (still researching audio options) and I'll be back to my favorite web site - this Association!
Any recommendations for sailing videos to watch on my new Samsung 46" LCD and Panasonic BD-35 Blu Ray player??
P.S. If your Admiral is not, shall we say, adept with technology then I highly recommend the Harmony One universal remote too.
We cannot direct the winds but we can adjust our sails.
I bought a Harmony a while back & have not been able to figure out how to make it talk properly to our TV to switch between feeds. Everything else works great, but since you can't switch between DVD player, VHS (yes I still have one), cable & Wii, it's of little use to me. I'm sure it can be done, I just haven't monkeyed with it long enough to figure out. Fortunately Rita's perfectly capable of figuring out how to make everything work, we just end up having to futz with 3-4 remotes. I wonder if the Harmony will work as a Wii-mote too?
I got one of those Harmony remotes as well and after many hours finally got most everything to work except the "timer". So due to that and that my wife hated it, I returned the remote. But I got a blue ray for Xmas as well. Can you tell that much of a difference? I have an 1080i-not p and maybe that's why. Don't know. Steve A
Are you guys using the online Harmony software? For our Harmony One we set up "Activities" including "Watch TV" and "Watch DVD." Touch "Watch TV" and the Harmony turns on the cable HD box, turns on the TV, and sets the TV to HDMI1 which is what the cable box connect to. If I then touch "Watch DVD" the remote turns off the cable box, turns on the DVD player and changes the TV to HDMI2. All seamless and it works great. I spent about a half hour on the online software site describing what components we have and how they connect to each other. The software did the rest. That then downloads, via USB, to the remote.
I have seen Master and Commander but will rent it again for the HD. Have not rented Deep Water but will.
I don't know of Blu-ray sailing movies, but when I get my player, I'm buying The BBC High Definition Natural History Collection (Planet Earth / Wild China / Galapagos / Ganges)--all for just a boat-unit on Amazon. Should be spectacular in HD.
We got a new 15" Digital TV 12v for aboard JD. This weekend the admiral asked if we should purchase a new TV for the bedroom (does that mean we're getting old?) and I suggested we just bring the boat tv inside!
Will show my new TV antenna & Solar mounting soon.
Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Hold the phone, Stop the train! Master and Commander comes on Bluray? I just rewatched it last week and decided the DVD looks worse on a HDTV. How about "Wind" although I doubt it comes in Bluray.
When I bought my Panasonic Plasma last year the first 2 movies I wanted to see again were Master and Commander and Wind (upconverted DVD though, not Blu-Ray).
I have two Harmony remotes, and the online configuration tool works very well. One in the bed room with just a cable box and DVD player, another in the family room with a DVD player and Wii, everything works very well.

We got a 15" LCD for the boat, but Chris didn't think we should leave it on the boat when we weren't going to be there for awhile. When we took it home, she said that it would probably get broken if we kept hauling back and forth. We now have a 15" LCD in the kitchen and EyeTV for the Macbook on the boat. Be careful of what you suggest!
Yes you win. You have a choice of prizes, Slinky with a kink in it, The sports section of the Miami Herold from October 22nd 2005, or the car charger for the Nokia my mom had in 1998.

I've seen spectacular excerpts, and I think it's what HD and Blu-ray were created for!
Have you seen, "Dead Calm"? It's one of those, don't pick up the drifter kind of flicks and has a young Nicole Kidman in it. And Frank, no wonder you sold your 25, to pay for the TV's!!! Did someone ask for pictures?
