When I bought my Cat 25, one bargaining chip was a drifter sail that the previous owner had purchased a short time ago. He wasn't going to include it because it had some decent value (he claimed). I made him throw it in the deal. I am not convinced I will ever use it, so I am trying to get a feel for its approximate value. Its multi-colored. I can get pics and dimensions if I get to that point, but.....anybody got a rough idea what this might go for here or on ebay?
Folks - stay in touch. I am not sure when I can get pics or dimensions. Its bagged in my cellar, and we have 6 inches of permanent crust on the ground here in Ma.
Its a std rig. Seeing as it will probably fetch less than $300, I might just keep it. The previous owner was mumbling something like $400-$500. If its worth $150-$250, I'm going to keep it.
Just FWIW, when we bought our boat, the seller complained that the nearly new spinnaker had cost him $250 per use, and he'd used it only 3x. I've never even had it out of it's bag, but since we're planning to race in the nationals hopefully that'll change.
Ya, John... a drifter might not get much use on Buzzard's Bay! I've never heard of anyone "drifting" there... Some day it'll be a wall-to-wall wind farm! But you might as well keep the sail for a season and see what happens.
Dave - only driftin I've done in Buzzards Bay, is when fishing fluke or when the damn engines quit on the power boats.....one reason I've crossed the line
On a couple of my earlier sail boats (albeit Alberg designs) I used my drifter ALL the time here on western Long Island Sound. If it is for a tall rig I too might be interested in it -- I presume it is hank on. And, yes, farther east a drifter is really not needed.
I have a drifter that we got with the boat. Just ordered a 150 genoa and don't think I have much use for this sail. Don't know how old it might be but it is in good shape. Not sure the weight of the sail cloth, but it is very light. It is not a hank on sail. The bag says Erickson 23 drifter. Luff-25' , Leach-23' and the foot is 15'. I would take $75 plus shipping. I live in NE Missouri. Zip 63473. Email me at hhh@marktwain.net for pictures.
