Hello Folks,

It appears the economy is affecting everyone. My marina didn't raise their slip fees this year, but no more 5% discount for early payment.

Fees are:
$850 Slip/hoist in and out - including wash
$75 for electric

How are other folks doing in other parts of the country?

Well, Syracuse only has about a 7-week sailing season between being buried in snow, right? My slip fees didn't change--it's still free, with water and power.

I'm moving into a new slip Saturday. It's a floating dock and my slip fee will be $177/mth + electricity for the next year ($2,124.00/yr). My electric has never been more than $3 or $4 because I only use it occasionally to charge my batteries. Many months it's $0.

I think they may give a 5% discount if paid upfront but I don't like doing that because I want the freedom to move with a 30 day notice if the marina and I don't see eye to eye. I wouldn't want to wait to get my balance back.

Nice pic of the boat DaveB. My slip is still $100 a month at a private residence, electric free if I don't abuse it.

No change in fees, but club membership may go up by $10.

We are in a "temporary slip" which means that a senior member who is on a sabattical (cruising) has allowed us to use their slip in their absence. We have moved up from #14 to #6 on the waitlist for a permanent slip this year. Because of size and draft issues, 4 of the boats ahead of us are all waiting for the same slip, effectively making us #2 on the list. Of course the politics and economics of waitlists can lead to some interesting changes at the last minute.

We enquired about a slip at Black Point Marina in Biscayne Bay. It's a state owned marina but they are trying to bring the prices within the band of commercial fees.

We would be looking at about $450 a month right now

and it's going up. There's a 4 year waiting list! The marina does not have showers or laundry facilities.

So JD is staying in her current slip, on the trailer at the side of the house... (Our F150 tow vehicle loan costs $600 a month!)

Still free (although hard to argue it is really free with the property taxes and electric bills) for the 36' Pacemaker, 25' Catalina, Yamaha GP760, and 15' Boston Whaler (although that spot might have a 17' Wellcraft in it this season). The two other spots get rented for $2000 for the season.

Marina Village in Mission Bay is still $290/month + $30 for bottom cleaning. They didn't raise the rates this year. The places in San Diego Bay are around $400 - $600. There are many, many vacancies in the 25 foot slips - more than I've ever seen. Large boat slips are still booked full with long waiting lists.

Racing is still popular in San Diego Bay, I am not noticing any less turn out than in usual years.

Our slip renewals come up due in May so it will be another month or so before we know what, if any, the increase will be. It's a city park facility with about 165 wet slips (no moorings) and 40 dry on-trailer spaces. It's also home base for our yacht club and a facility which we were heavily involved in helping to bring into existence. In the past, the wet slip renters have gotten 1 month free by paying the year in advance. However, we've gone through a major renovation this past year, which is still not finished. So I am expecting the rent to go up. The only question now is how much. Hopefully the economy will hold it down.

My slip(located in Newport Beach, CA) fees are $450 per month, plus electricity which is maybe an additional $.50. I have been there over 2 years and never had an increase.

There is a 7-10 year waiting list, depending on size.This is a city owned marina. Other non city owned marinas in Newport are charging $700.
We have restrooms, a pump out station and showers. There is also a restaurant, marine store and shipyard.

The marina is less than 10 minutes from my house. No traffic and plenty of parking spaces. The annual Xmas Boat Parade goes right by me. My neighbors are friendly and we have a great manager who sends us monthly newsletters.

I cant ask for any more.

Our fees went up $15/quarter this year, which brings our monthly fees to $150 including water & electricity, quite possibly the cheapest in the greater Seattle area. Of course our marina is bare bones, no bathrooms, no pump out, no amenities at all except free ice (which is actually pretty nice). We have access to the marina upstream of us for bathrooms & showers, but we've never used it, it's a bit of a hike. However, we like it, it's clean, well maintained, run by nice folks, and everyone is part owner of the marina. We have a couple of work parties each year to do maintenance.

Today its about 9 miles to the boat. Friday we do our final walk through of the new house and we should be moving in Saturday. Then the boat will be about 150' away.

For the above fee I get a floating dock in a very protected inner harbor, 2-clubhouses with big screen TV's, 2 very nicely landscaped swimming pools, 2-laundry rooms, a boatyard, and a West Marine store about 300 yards from my slip.

Oh ya... bridge clearance... I couldn't get my C-25 up here because of I-95, which is just 25'. That's just one of the reasons for the boat you see above. But a gaff-rigged catboat would do fine!

You're right, it's a long drive to the bay. You can always come back for hurricane season. I should be around part of the day Saturday putting a new autopilot drive unit in. I'll look for you when I'm there.

My marina is squeezing us slip holders a bit by changing the fee due dates from March-May-July-September to the new system of Jan-Feb-Mar-Apr. But we now get 5% off for paying up front, 1% off per year in the slip, and nice amenities: dock lights, free electricity, water, nice private bathrooms, travel lift, winter storage & boat shop on the premises, and a crab shack & bar at the edge of the marina. About $3k/year.

It seems all of the slips are still rented, but I can't tell what the place will look like after the spring splash.

I'm looking into other cheaper, simpler marinas around here - there are dozens of marinas within 20 miles of Annapolis. I'd like to save those boat units.
