I'm bored. Lets see how many references to sailing and sailboats we can come up with. Allow others to cite the source.

"... we must sail, sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it - but we must sail and not drift nor lie at anchor."

Who said it?

Alright, find this quote:

What is the difference between being in a sailboat and being in jail?

In the jail there is more room, better food, and commonly, better company!

The same guy that said:

"...for, being in a ship is being in a jail, with the chance of being drowned."

For those that didn't get Dave's hints, mine was The Honorable Oliver Wendell Holmes, U.S. Supreme Court Justice, 1902-1932.

OK, I'll play, here's my favorite, but it's an easy one:
<font size="3"><blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. “
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="size3">

Old riverboat captains indeed...

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed. . ."

Always been one of my favorites, too. In fact, as I recall, it was on the cover of the West Marine catalog about four years ago! I get all of my fine literary knowledge from there.

Star Trek or big whale version? Although Star Trek's quoting the latter, so it's moot.

From friend's email Signature:

"Sailing is a good sport. You don't have to beat up the other guy like you do in boxing and football; you just try to outsmart him, and then you go out and have a beer with him"

Another from the Same Friend:
"Any damn fool can navigate the world sober. It takes a really good sailor to do it drunk".
