I would like to suggest we add a Library section to our association website. I like any other members can come up with interesting books once in a while that may be useful to our community. Instead of talking about books in this general section, I thought it would be more appropriate to do so in a separate forum section.

I love books, and have bought a few really nice books about sailing and boats. But what about other media with entertaining or informative content, like websites and videos?
I think if we add a book forum, there may then be a proliferation of segments of the forum with more and more fragmented content. It's already becoming tedious to click through 3 or 4 or 5 forum strings to get the day's Catalina 25/250/Capri-25 news and chat.
There would be a good rationale to add sections on fiberglass, and on electrical systems, and on sailing technique, and on ground tackle, and on navigation, and on outboards/inboards, and on world news of sailing, etc.
Like John, I too would not like to see the forum become even more fragmented. I'm still not crazy about splintering off the cruising and racing forums. I don't think they get the traffic to warrant separate forums.
I agree with Don about splitting the Racing,Cruising and General. I need to click on multiple sections to find new posts. Maybe if we would have a kind of catch all that would show all new posts? You may find an example of such here: http://www.cruisersforum.com/
Upon entering the Cruisers Forum you will notice to the right that many forum sections are represented. All new posts are located there. Then if you want to further segregate your can go into the specific sections.
If this would be the case we could make as many sections as we would like and enjoy the benefits of the catchall newposts. I like the idea of subdividing books into Engines, Electrical, fiberglass, etc.
The Cruisers Forums use vBulletin as their forum software while we use Snitz. Probably not doable with Snitz, I don't know.
I dunno Steve, seems like Paul's hands are full enough chasing off spambots and keeping *me* on topic. I kninda like this forum for its simplicity. The canoeing forum that I used to go to got so fragmented tha tit was near impossible to navigate.
Now a library on board the boat - that I would go for. Maybe a nice little bookshelf on the forward side of the Vberth bulkhead...
This already has a function like that. Click on "Active Topics" in the upper right of this page. It will take you to topics posted since your last log-in.
As to the book section. If you're talking reference kinds of materials, I wonder if there might be a place in the "Manuals and Brochures" section of the site.
