I need to replace the rollers in the bottom of my mast (and probably the top as well) and was wondering if anyone has done this and what problems I may run into. The triple turning blocks have broken rollers also but I figured it would be easier to replace the blocks instead of hunting for replacement rollers. As for the mast I haven't a clue as to finding parts.

Thx

I dis-assembled the rollers at the base of the mast, and if you don't have too much corrosion they come apart pretty easy. Remove the cotter pin from the shaft and remove the shaft aftward. My rollers were aluminum and were in pretty good shape. What I was dealing with was a bent shaft, which I straightened enough to get back in. Also, there were spacer plates between the rollers that were largely missing or broken up. I removed enough of the pieces from both sides to make a template. I bought some delron sheet material and I am intending to cut new spacers and put in (not accomplished yet). I've found the spacers very necessary, as some times, on occasion I've had the jib halyard on the port side jump the roller and jamb between the rollers. That locks it down pretty effectively.

As far as the deck organizer. My boat had Garhauer triple block hardware. I contacted Garhauer in CA and they were very cooperative about sending me new rollers and bearings (very reasonably priced). I found that the bearings they sent me were designed for a larger bolt then what I origninally had installed on my boat, therefore I re-used the old bearings with the new rollers as they did not seem badly worn. So far I've had no complaints about the re-build.
That's my experiance, hope it helps.

I looked at mine this weekend and took measurements. I came up with a width of .5", 1.75" OD and .25" ID. There appears to be a replacement part on Catalina Direct. The width and the ID appear to match mine but Catalina Direct does not give an OD. The part number is R6075 and price seems resonable at about $10 each. If you want to go high end, Industrial Rigging has stainless sheaves that also may appear to work. I ordered some of the stainless sheaves and will attempt to put them in this weekend.

Also check out McMaster Carr, part number 3524T12. Looks like it is comparable and about $10 cheaper than the Industrial Rigging sheave.

The stainless sheaves from both vendors were the same and were made by Suncor. They were not a plug in replacement. The hubs on the stainless sheaves need to be ground down from 0.65 to 0.5 in order to match my original sheaves.
