A combination of a runaway kitchen remodel, some necessary travel, and a suddenly blown engine in my car left me looking for some ways shore up the budget. Decided we might have to sell Noeta. Sometimes you do what you gotta do. Bought the "For Sale" signs, wrote the ad. Got fairly depressed.
Then I took some friends out Saturday for a last run. The Admiral's (wife) meetings ran late so we left the dock without her. Winds were blowing around 20, and for the first time in years I was sailing in a good breeze without any nervous sailers on board. The boat, captain, and crew were happier than they've been for some time! The kids all sat on the lee rail and dragged their feet in the water and the boat just hummed along.
We doused sail, slid along a friendly dock long enough for the Admiral to jump on board, had the sails back up and full in minutes. The Admiral was a little unerved with the heeling, but instead of flattening the boat out we just let her go a while. She grew a little more comfortable with the heel, and we had one of the best days on the water we've ever had.
So, the For Sale signs went into the dumpster with the rest of the trash.

Nice story Doug. I wish I had done the same. Now with no strike and a 8% signing bonus Ruth and I are looking for another Boat. Just a though. Perhaps next year you could send your wife up to Port Townsend to take one of the boat handling classes they have. Ruth just finished one and she said it was great. They sailed and docked each taking turns at the helm of a 38' Orca. It looks like a West Sail. Now she is ready to move up in Boat size.
