Well as I reported earlier the time has come to take the boat off of our little lake. The Admrial and I went to the boat, she dropped me off and took the kids to lunch. I set the sails and went for a hour or so with a pleasant light wind. No one was with me to enjoy the sail, Brigitte wasn't sure if she would be back in time for any sailing, so I reluctantly decided to head to the boat ramp to get ready for my buddy that was going to help get the boat off. Butch was a little late and a new guy in the club was there to take his boat off. He was intersted in helping because he never saw a boat this big on a trailer. Roger just couldn't understand the need for a long tow rope. As we were getting ready to roll the trailer in Butch showed up and finished helping us. Got up into the parking lot and Butch went to get his boat, an O Day 25 ready to take off. The admrial drove in and said, "I thought you were going sailing first." bless her heart. Butch had said he wanted to get off and home fairly quickly, but I just had to ask if he wanted to sail a little more. It was perfect, my wife on the bow (one of here favorite relaxing spots) Butch at the helm and I was relaxing just tending the jib. After a couple of hours of joy we headed in. Brigitte went to pick up the kids, Butch and I took down our masts and helped about 2 other boats on to their trailers. Brigitte did say I could go to Monterey next week end.
Natt, Okay, I'm going to show my ignorance about west coast climate and geography. I've heard several times that San Diego has an average year-round temperature of 70 degrees. Atwater must be well to the north and hence there's an end to your sailing season?
'Guess you missed Matt's previous thread ... they are draining his lake for maintenance. 'Good news is, 'sounds like his Admiral has given him permission to be a rogue sailor ... he'll be trailering to some other spots ... right, Matt?
After we get notice the lake level will fluctuate a couple of feet for a while then it just drops about 15 to 20 feet. The average lake level is about 20 feet. last year I had a muddy keel because I wanted a little more sail time. If it had gotten any lower I could have been left high and dry for 6 months. Yes I have permission to travel. Our club is going to Montery bye this week end. I got Friday off and can join them. Friday morning set up at Moss Landing, between Monterey and Santa Cruz, and afternoon sail to Montery. Saturday day sailing off the coast. Sat night or Sunday Morning sail back to Moss landing for the return to the valley. Now all I have to do is get over the guilt of leaving her with the two kids for the week end, Don't know if I can do that.
