<rant>After mounting my new spinnaker pole last week, I removed the "mounts" for the whisker pole that came with the boat (falling apart double braid lines). I took the pole home with me to clean it up since the mechanism was kinda sticky. I noticed that all four screws holding the two heads onto the pole are heavily rusted. Why on earth would a reputable company sell something designed to be used on a sailboat with non stainless/bronze/monel hardware? Replacements were only $0.48/4 at WM, and I'm sure in bulk they'd be about $0.04/ea at most. This makes no sense to me, yes I know that SS will rust in some situations, but these were rusted over the the whole screw, even inside the tubing. This is hardly a giant world crushing problem, but I'm having an irritable day & figured I'd vent my spleen about something.</rant>

Don't feel to bad -- I bought a new balanced rudder package two years ago placing the rudder on the boat while on the hard where the boat sat for a @ a month before launching. However, after the first rain the hardware all began rusting! I notified CD who said contact "the manufacturer" in Idaho, which I did and was told to return the entire rudder! I decided I could go a season or two then replace the hardware for much less cost and hassle than returning everything and having no rudder for a bunch of our already short New England Summers. The point is, I would have been happy to pay a buck more to have the proper hardware material! What's the world coming too . . .
