Why is the Metal backing plate on the aft midstays an l shaped bracket with the l toward the inside. Is that just so I can bump my head? I'm gonna try to turn them around. My GF/commodore/swab declares I'm trying to dumb her down. ( by having her bump her head in this boat....)

Thanks

The L shape adds strength, and my guess is that it is turned that way to hide the bolts from view, i.e. it just looks nicer!.

Ah so .. they'd look better without blood on them.

Call marketing and tell them legal wants a meeting..

I'm 6'3" and have never had a problem with those brackets but those D@^M pop top clamp knobs and bolts have a lot of my DNA on them! Just look at my Avitar for the proof!

Nice staples !!

I once had staples like that for knee surgery (ACL Reconstruction). When it was time to get the staples removed, luckily they do not remove it with a stationary style staple remover ---YEEEEOH ! They have this handy dandy staple remover tool that gently straightens the staple before they easily lift the staple away from the skin.

I have to check out those backing plates tomorrow or Wednesday. I didn't realize they were quite so exposed.

I have flat backing plates on those bolts and cap nuts on all bolts protruding into the cabin. They still hurt, but rarely draw blood. I highly recommend them, and they give the interior a more finished look.

Ahrrrrrr.... I've have some more rum with my exposed bolts. More padding below. Thank You for the headshot. I'd rather see now than feel it Later...

Flat backing plates with bolt covers is now at the top of my refit list!

So Frank, what did you do to prevent further ouchies? Did you remove metal or add padding?

I did that reaching something in the forepeak, it was one of the forward hatch dog bolts that got me; sounded like ripping a sheet.

... upgraded to an '89 with a Bomar hatch.

Point being though that exposed bolts are dangerous and all should have a cap of some kind.

...either acorn (cap) nuts, or you can nip the bolt off at the nut and then file it down flush. I prefer acorns--they bump but they don't slice.

I have flat plates on mine. I can measure them for you but from memory, they are 4" x 6" and 3/8" thick. Be pretty hard to yank them through the deck.
I've seen those L shaped plates and wondered why myself.

Thank you for the offer to measure but I'm good. I'll just remove the old ones and put up a temp backing block. I'm gonna cut the old ones and cap the bolts.

And Look for bar ends ( bicycle handle bar ends ) to cap the pop top bar bottoms.

What Redeye failed to mention is that I actually bang my head on the cabin roof and I have foot disease. A bigger boat, honey, would make my headaches go away :) I can't comment on Frank's hardware as the sight of blood suddenly makes me queasy.
