I am trying to remove my extension housing on my 1988 evinrude 9.9 hp sel outboard to check my water tube. It has a leak and I probably need to replace it. I can get the extension down about 1 inch and no more. The water tube is coming down with the extension but will not let it come down no more. I may be looking at it being stuck top and bottom. The gearbox is already off so the shift rod is disconnected.
Is the extension supposed to come off easily? How hard is it to remove the powerhead? Any other information you can give?
I have read his site and have it bookmarked, but he doesn't tell how to remove the water tube. He doesn't go into specifics on the extension housing. Thanks for the link though.
