Defender kept about three-and-a-half of my Boat Units when I left there two weeks ago--mostly just maintenance stuff. Now I just need some weather, and on to the maintenance!
I have time since I rarely get on the water until August (would rather spend for 1 month of dockage and get out for a week or two straight, then spend for an entire season and only get out periodically.....)
Still, have to convicne the SO that I need some boat time...
My plan is to use some evenings now that daylight savings time is here to clean up, trace my lack of mast light problems, do more repairs on the dock, maybe change out my stock ladder with a new ladder with the plastic steps and hopefully get power to my auto tiller!
Dave, I am curious. You are in Daytona (I have two sisters living there). I assume that you sail in the ocean? Do you have to sail out of Ponces Inlet?
Hi John, yes we do. that's the misleading thin g about this area. I'm sure a lot of people are like, "boy I'd love to live in an area that's so great for sailing", but REALLY, unless you're close to the inlet you've got quite the ditch cruise to get there(not many marinas). Myself, I'm 9 1/2 miles from the inlet in South Daytona, 2 hours unless you can catch the outgoing tide which will cut that time in half. Then, once you get there you're dealing with what's called the 3rd worst inlet on the east coast of FL. It is true though, that once you get out the inlet it's pure heaven!!!
Looking at Ponce Inlet and South to New Smyrna Beach from the Lighthouse
Everytime I am down there, my sister and brother-in-law are asking me to come down, but I like to sail more than motor and just don't see the glamour in the "ditch cruise". Granted, I love the beach!
If you ever need a good mechanic, look up Bill's Discount Carburator and Tune-up in Holly Hill!
I know exactly what you mean. In Scylla, its a 3 hour motor up to the Lake Worth inlet. There in a inlet not 15 minutes away but its power boat only due to the fact that the A1A bridge is non opening.
