My father in law (70+ years of age)who lives in Hicksville, NY on Long Island, just had a ownership ending mechanical failure on his 19 foot cuddy cabin motorboat. His admiral will not allow him to buy a new boat at his age. His 20+ year old boat is in immaculate shape except for the broken rod in the engine (that's the kind of guy he is.) So I am looking for either a place he can charter small motor boats or a volunteer opportunity where he can be around boats. My only idea is the Coast Guard Auxillary. Does anybody have any good ideas? He is really depressed about the idea of giving up his boat!
Also check out the US Power Squadron--closely allied to the CGA. They teach safety courses around here--required to be a boat operator in CT. Even if that's not what he wants, it could be a connection to some people who can help him find what he does want. Being around boaters is almost as good as being around boats--this place is the perfect example, especially in the winter!
