<vent spleen> I stopped in Harbor Freight during lunch today to browse around. Picked up a few things, etc. Stopped by the sandpaper aisle and was surprised to find that they carried Norton sanding disks for my random orbit sander. What really surprised (and irritated) me was that I had just this past Saturday went shopping at both Lowe's & HD for paper for the sander for the tiller project I'm working on. Lowe's didn't carry Norton disks at all (they do carry sheets), but HD had them. Prices were roughly $4.50/3 pack (and the 60 grit was a 2-pack). The price at HF? $3.00/<b>4</b> pack. That's half price! Grrrr.... </vent spleen>
I used to never bother about what kind of paper I got (including getting five hole paper instead of eight which is what my Dewalt uses) until I noticed how much better Norton paper works than anyone else's paper. It's them clever Canadians, I tell you. Anyway, I go out of my way to get Norton sand paper, and now I know where to get it. Thought you might like to know too.

I just went to HF as well. I picked up a bunch of chip brushes, nitrile gloves, a tarp, and scored a ratcheting crimping tool for all my electric rewiring needs. Some of the stuff is cheap (in both quality and price), but a lot of the stuff is fine.
I wouldn't buy a precision tool (lathe, plane, forstner bits, etc.) there, but many of the items are great values. And as David says, they do stock several "name brands".
I picked up some fleece lined plastic gloves for cold and wet weather sailing, some nice dolly wheels to replace those on a wagon in my yard, and a $50 fish finder that works! I like HF.
most of their things are off brand. i buy quite a bit from them. i have bought things like spray paint guns. and other small tools. i would rather pay their prices for something i'm going to use once a year than but some tool that i could use everyday thye rest of my life.
i rate these guys much higher than cummins tools. now there i only buy minimum items.lots of their yard equipment has been factory reconditioned. bought a reconditioned power washer and they would not give me my money back, even it never worked. had to talk to everyone but the COO before someone had the authority to give me a $200 credit for something that never worked.

So, adding insult to injury, while searching through some stuff this evening, I found more Norton sanding disks I bought some time ago. The price tag on them is $2/4-pack. Rita's going to tease me mercilessly when she reads this. She's constantly telling me if I look hard enough I can find anything in the garage.
Back in January, my pickup got stuck in mud in a location that was inaccessible to a tow truck, so I had to pull it out myself. Lowe's price for a 4000# capacity come-along winch: $54.95. Harbor Freight's price for a similar 4000# capacity come-along: $13.99. The Lowe's model had a nicer, easier-to-use cable release mechanism, but not worth 4x the price that Harbor Freight was charging. Harbor Freight is like Toys-R-Us for "big" kids.
