I'm doing some tests to allow indication of Members and Guests.
right now I'm the only member the rest of you are guests.
So don't be offended.
I'll leave the test in place for now. Just needed to ensure that it's feasible.
If you see an issue with it please respond.
The intent is to show an insignia that represents members of the association or guests.
Perhaps we can run a competition for insignia designs. Get your sketch pads out! Right now the graphic is 100x15 pixels in size.
FYI, the process goes like this.
There is an image to the left, <s>of 'Initially Posted' and 'Response Posted'</s> under the 'ranking' stars, that is set by the status of the poster.
The new membership system will provide the result, that's not programmed yet, so right now I just test to see if it's me, or if it's the rest of you (Get down off the quarterdeck!)
Don't take this toooooo seriously, you know that we're all sailors at heart and sailors are good people.
Paul, I am now using IE8 and see testing vs TESTING. Great job, we are moving along as planned. How about using our Burgee as a graphic or a headshot of the member! Steve A
Paul, on windows running IE 6, some threads show "testing" while others show a dash in a box. it doesn't appear to be linked to the names but the threads. Shouldn't I ALWAYS be either"testing" or a blank regardless of which thread I'm browsing?
OK, this is weird, I now only see Turk and Randy TESTING. Everyone else is gone except a box and I keep using refresh with IE8 but all ok when I can back using Firefox. I did not need to refresh. Steve A
FYI, the wierd part is that the image source changes for each post, reply and member. I have put in the codes to ensure that they are always unique, but browsers are majic!
Chrome handles it very well.
Keep the reports coming in. Letting me know which browser you're using is a big help!
HINT! In Internet explorer, hitting refresh does not cause the cached images to be refreshed! You have to hold down the shift + ctrl key then click the refresh icon (or shift+ctrl and hit F5)
Paul, on IE 7.0.6002.18005 on unreleased Vista SP II, I see TESTING and the hover/Tool Tip text says: "this is a test, so it does not reflect the poster's status!"
Yours is in lower case, everyone else is in upper case.
<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2"><font color="navy">I think showing the members with a burgee is a great idea and will encourage membership, and burgee sales.
Is - "Member Since 19XX" - possible?
BTW - I just responded to a question about running lines back to the cockpit and there is a Tech Tip in our web sites Tech Tip's on the subject. It seems the wealth of knowledge in the web site sits apart from the discussions. I'm not sure how to get posters to explore the web site or if it could be more interactive but it would be useful to explore some ideas along that line.</font id="navy"></font id="size2"></font id="Comic Sans MS">
I suggest we use the burgee for members. Use the commodore, vice commodore, secretary, treasurer, web master flags for officers and staff. I don't think there is an official Editor flag.

Paul, the new burgee graphic looks great. But how come yours looks better than ours, which is lighter? OK guess you deserve better one cuz you have worked so long and hard on this project. You really deserve much more. Well done. Ok everybody, 3 cheers to Paul! Steve A
Remembering that I don't have the data in place yet to test for membership, and we don't have an insignia for 'guests', so I just made a faded burgee.
Right now, I am only testing for officers status, the rest of you swabbies get the faded burgee. (I'm thinking of taking some Cutlass lessons.)
When it's finished, the system will recognize members and display the bright burgee and guests will get the guest burgee whatever that turns out to be.
Will you place an identification key either on the home page of the Association Forum, the home page of the Association, or at the bottom of each page on the Forum? Or all 3?
Now that the screen refreshed after that post, everyone got flags. Is this totally random, or does my computer just like some people better than others.
