All yours Steve, I was unable to get anywhere with it. At least in a reasonable quantity or price range. My friend with the doctorate in plastics is now working for a coatings company and really doesn't dabble in the same polymers he used to.

I think I'm going to scan and redraw one of my old logos that I removed that was still intact. I'll redraw it in illustrator and send to my sign company that did my vinyl name and numbers. I'm going to have it done in the red that my name is in or in brown like my canvas and boot/cove stripes. I purchased the new ones from catatlina direct but just haven't had the heart to install them. They just don't have the cool vintage character that the old logo has, not to mention the deck is perfect, beautiful fiberglass under the old ones and the rest is so oxidized, as I positioned the new ones, you could still see the old outlines. If anyone wants the illustrator .eps file that I create of the old logo with number 25, i'll be more than happy to post a link to download from my server. I'm in the middle of big projects and we are finishing up our racing season the next few weekends here in central arkansas, so it will be a while before I can get to it. I'll post to the forum if anyone is interested at that time. My sign company says they'll only charge $12 for both. Plus, no more kicking them by accident in winter when they are brittle (how the starboard side one broke two years ago!).

I've considered all of the above. I think they're brittle year-round as I broke mine in the summer <img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle> . If you have an intact logo, I (and I'm sure others) would be interested in seeing the results in vinyl.
I assume the end product would be the outer (black) surface since that's all you really see on the originals?

Well, I am a graphic designer by trade and have been thinking about how to make it look right. I think what I'm going to do is redraw both the inner logo and the outer bevel as an outline. It might look good, say for me, to have the brown "Catalina 25" with a thin brown outline to the size of the bevel. I have a bumper sticker from early 80's that came with my boats info that says "Sailing is more fun in my Catalina 25" and they have treated the logo that way. See here:

Patrick, I certainally would be interested in replacment graphics for this. My port side is trashed. I was thinking about taking a picture with the digital camera and in Illistrator tracing the letters onto another layer to create a pattern.

I'm trying to figure out a way to get this pattern onto either teak or stainless steel for a custom look that still matches the rest of the boat? Hmmm.

Jody, most sign companies can use illustrator .eps files and you may find someone in your area that can cut the teak or stainless ones from applying the vinyl directly to the material and use as a tracing guide. If more keep getting interested in this, I'll need to hurry up and do it. but as I'd said, it will probably be later in the month. I know I can produce an extrememly accurate and clean .eps version. I thought about contacting the company (catalina) and asking if they could put me in touch with someone who might have it, but that was way back in the eighties and graphics were still (technically speaking) in the dark ages, so I doubt it was anything more than a lino or film. Might be worth checking on, though.

I think an accurate copy of the logo produced in vinyl would attract many people. From even a short distance no one will see the difference. Also, plastic replicas will surely become brittle and crack-off again with time.

I've drawn one based on the bumper sticker and am not happy, I'll go down to the boat in a week or so and get the "good" one and take some better measurements, then give it a good scan and redraw on top of it. That should help me clean it up to near perfect! It won't be long after that. I'll post a JPEG here so that folks can see it and if anyone can get in touch with Mark M. Maybe he can post it to the site. I'm not asking for any money. I just want to help out my fellow Catalina owners. I'll get back to you all!

My portside Logo was broken by someone (couldn't have been me!)this summer, so I would be very interested in a vinyl replacement...count me in if we are making a list of interested people.

Ahw, Hell, I got so busy, that I didn't get back to it. It's one of those things that's low on the list, even the boat list, especially when it's not making me money to pay for everything else on the list!! I'll try to work it in soon. I know I can produce a clean and quality version of the logo, I've done it a thousand times when crunched at the press and vendors only had an old box. I've redrawn from faxes before!! I'll let you know!

I'm in, too! And at each of the other C-25s in our boat club has at least one broken logo... I'm in no hurry, unfortunately--around here I won't be able to apply adhesive-backed vinyl till about next April. <img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle>

Alright! I just got back from the boat, put the dodger on, brought the bimini back for repairs, got the old logos out of storage on the boat! and gave her a good "before-it-get's-too-damn-cold" wash down and interior cleaning!! I'm still going to sail her all winter though!

The project ( my big, monthly, pay all my bills one) will be to the press on wednesday this coming week and I'll have the logo file worked up, hopefully before I go back down to the boat this coming weekend. I'm going to make a few test prints on some static cling inkjet plastic to see if they look good, then I'll send my file off to my sign company (getting one in red and brown, both are accent colors on my boat and use the one that looks best and put the others on my car!!)

So we're getting there. After I do all of that and it looks good (i'll take digitals), I'll post a link to my server that you can all go to download the Adobe Illustrator EPS file that you can load to a disk (the logo will be designed in black and you can tell your sign company to print in what ever color you want) and take to your vendor. Just be sure to sing my praises as this is all for free!! (and I hope catalina doesn't sue me for copyright/trademark infringement!!)

Are you kids ready? I got tired of real work today and decided to do it a day early! Here's a little gif of it. Let me know if you think it will work. While working on the logo, you could really see it's age, nothing is symmetrical like things are today. I did a little work to clean it up, but it is mostly the original lines. I think I may make that outline just a little thinner. At the appropriate size, though, it looks fine. I'm going to contact my sign company to make sure they can do it with the thin outline, then I'm going to get the size exactly as the old one so that we can plaster it right over the old marks on the coming, I think the 25 is a little larger than shown here. But at least you can see that I've made progress!! It's pretty sweet if i do say do my self! I can't wait to get it on the boat. I think it's the little things like this that make the boat even nicer, the proverbial cherry on top AND (other than getting it printed) remember, it didn't cost you anything!!
