Transom trim piece

Anyone have luck rejuvenating the white transom trim piece between the ends of the rub rail? Mine seems to have lost its glossy finish and now attracts and retains dirt. It's only 4 years old and is under cover in the off season - five months a year.

Mine is all pocked and beyond repair. Is this a replaceable item? If so who has it. What’s it called?

Mine is brittle and slowly fading away. Just last weekend I was looking at another C25 stored by my boat and that boat's trim piece was also rotting away. I was thinking of making one out of starboard or something.

I bought the last one from Catalina. It's not worth buying only to have it deteriorate so quickly. I'm with Don - make one out of a better material.

The same piece had deteriated on my C22. The SPO (Smart Previous Owner) fabricated a replacement out of stainless steel sheet and split SS tubing. It looked great and was probably better than original. I wish I had a photo of it since it looked like it belonged on the boat like original equipment.

Any expertise in making something like this Don? If not, I have a basement full of power tools. I've heard good things about starboard. Have you worked with it? If so, would you be able to round the corners with a carbide router bit?

No, I have not worked with starboard, but from what I hear you can work this stuff with ordinary wood working tools(saws,routers, drills,...etc). I'm not sure of the actual dimensions(depth) of the original transom piece since mine is paper thin in most areas, but maybe it could be fabricated from 1/4" starboard. The next time I'm at BoatUS or Home Depot I'll check this stuff out and maybe move the project up on the "to do" list.

Call Catalina Direct. . . it is very cheap. I had to trim the ends of the "U" to fit under my rub rail, but a sharp knife will do the trick.

Ours was falling apart, so anticipating that I'd get a new one, I unscrewed the old one and filled the holes with some white caulk. While it exposed a few ripples and edges, I decided the area looked a lot better than with the messy trim--and better than any of the other 3 "trimmed" C-25s in the club, so I may just leave it that way.

I purchased the replacement transom trim piece from Catalina Direct. It is horrible. Doesn't even begin to fit correctly. I'll have to cut it all up, and melt it, and it still won't fit correctly. This is the only part I've purchased from them that does not fit well.

I had to do the same with the one I purchased from Catalina Yachts - so it's not just a CD issue.
I believe the one they supply for the C25 works on the C22, hence, the extra plastic that you have to trim off.
It's time consuming, it doesn't last but a few seasons and it's wasteful. Call me a purist, I'm going to make a replacement out of Starboard and I don't think I'll have to make another one for the life of the boat.

Well, I reached for my camera as soon I read the above (I just love having my boat at home!) but the first mate must have taken it to work.
Buzz, on the transom there's a ~12" gap between the ends on the rub rails, just above the upper gudgeon, there's a white plastic piece that fills that gap - shaped a little like a horse shoe.

It was already gone when I got my boat. there was residue and the screws that hold it. I filled those and sanded out the residue and when i painted the hull I painted that also. You don't notice that anything was ever there. call me unpure but maybe i am glad i did it that way. I am in tx. and a sculptor. I have never heard of starboard. is that a name brand? for what? I have heard of about everything else.
