In a different tread, Capri25 said "I would install a 5" inspection plate 12" back from the keel box under the teak and holy floring to gain access to this area. Makes a good place to take a pump and get the water out.
I am looking into a very low profile builge pump to install."
My boat is going in on May 15. I'd like to do this before it goes in and want to make sure that I do it right. So if I take up the floor, and measure back about 12" from the place where there is a floor panel insert, that would be the location? At that location, you are saying that I can drill a hole, that will open up an area about 2" deep. Have I got that right?
Thanks

I added an inspection port just below the companionway about where the cooler would sit. When I want to pump it out, usually there is very little water, I use a small hand pump and then sponge it out and leave the lid off to allow for it to dry out. When I purchased my boat, there was another inspection port installed forward of the keel tray and slightly starboard near the compression post.
It is easy to cut the port and install a new inspection port. Mine is a 4" hole but I probably should have used a larger one, but it still works fine. I dont get that much water.
Water in the boat drives me crazy, I got the ports resolved and the rub rail will be replaced next year which seems to be the biggest culprit for my bilge water.
I put a sponge on a stick so I can reach down into the bilge without straining, and can take out the water by squeezing out the sponge in a bucket.
I usually don't get any more water than about 3-4 ounces over the course of a few weeks.
While I sail in saltwater, apparently the water in my bilge is fresh rain water coming in somewhere? Could be the poptop, the stanchions or the windows.
