i am on a mooring and am going to use a kayak (or a small rigid dinghy) to get to my boat this season. i am interested in getting opinions/ suggestions on rigs or set-ups i can use so that when i return, i can pick up my buoy without having the tender get in the way- i am planning on leaving my tender at the mooring while i sail.
I am on a mooring i keep the dingy on a 20` floating tow line , with a safty latch at the end ..it gives you room to pick up the stick ..you just dont want to run over the line pulling up to it . and put some kind of contact info on it too , in case it gets loose .
I'd do the dink as I have seen kayaks capsized after a passing wake, or the mothership hits it when approaching the mooring. A float about 7-10' on the dinghy painter with floating line eliminates running over it or submerged line issues - most of the time.
I'm a terrible pilot when motoring, and I've never run over the dinghy line. I always tied it to the opposite side of the mooring pendant from the pick up stick and never once ran over it.
