I left saturday morning at 3:30am from San Antonio, and got to Jackson, MS at 12:30. 650 miles! At least I got to drag my good friend along. I knew I would need his help taking down the mast.
Let me start by side-stepping to the rental. The best deal in town was Alamo Rental who had a Cobalt waiting for me for $63 for two days. Awesome deal in my opinion. However, when I saw it, it only had a CD player. Right next to it was their non-advertised Hyundai Elantra with XM radio. "I'll take it!" I researched the Cobalt and everyone said they were getting about 28mpg on average. The Elantra got me 30.2mpg driving crazy cause we were on a deadline. But 33.2mpg going the speedlimit back home. I just had to put that out there if you're in the renatal market. Elantra > Cobalt
As we got there, the owner greeted us and helped us get the boat ready. It has a few wood issues, but nothing major. Just enough to make it a "hobby" and not work. lol We managed to get the mast down by only loosening the front 3 stays. Then backed it down with the 3 of us. It was strenuous with no supports, guides, etc. But it was doable even in the 100 degree sun. I now look like a cherry though since I forgot sunscreen.
The seller treated us to drinks at his yacht club, and left me with very few, if any surprises. I left feeling I got the best deal ever. I got a bone dry 89 TR/WK with a working carry-on A/C unit for $7600. That unit is G.O.L.D. down here in south Texas. Miss Behavin' will be delivered to Canyon Lake on Thursday.
Well, writing was always my worst subject, so I'll let the pictures speak for me. I like large pics, so sorry 56k users.

Yup--you got a diamond in the rough! Looks like that rudder could use some work--I haven't seen the newer, foam-cored, balanced rudder pop open like that. Fortunately (I'm pretty sure) it isn't wood in there, like the older ones--I'm surprised it opened up like that. It might have been from heat. As a rule, don't store the rudder in sunlight and out of the water--especially horizontally.
You might have noticed that posts are a little cumbersome to read in this thread, due to the size of your pictures... (...and we can't see the pictures very easily, either). A quarter to a third of that size would be much nicer.
Have a great time with Miss B!! (...and time to change your signature! )
