I have an older C-25, and the fuel tank sits on a shelf in the lazarette ... how is the fuel line supposed to be routed to the engine? The PO just stuck it up through the port air vent ... I really don't believe that is what Frank Butler intended ... is it? Is there a good way to run it through the transom?
My hatch has a small notch cut in the aft edge, about 3" in from the front of the seat. The fuel line is lead through this notch, across the transom (inside the boat) to the other side, up and over the transom, to the engine. One benefit is that the fuel line is removed when we leave the boat and locked in the locker.
The fitting is mounted high high on the transom(the fuel line comes through the transom above the fuel tank in the lazarette shelf and above the motor mount bracket)and it is mounted towards the port side so the engine/bracket does not hit it when it is in the raised position. The alternator cable passes through this same hull fitting.
The only issue I have is that my through-hull fitting is smaller than the fuel line connector. This means that I have to remove the hose clamp that attaches the fuel line to the tank every time I remove the fuel tank, which to me, is not a big deal. I probably would have installed a larger through hull fitting that could accomodate the connector, because then I could easily stow it to prevent any spontaneous unauthorized midnight joyrides with my boat.
I too have the same set-up as Don. I am not as worried about Joy rides though, around here most of your joy riders are going to go for the stink boat....(Joy Riders, please do not sink the boat where it is salvagable....) with the lazarette locked, you can't get to the primer pump on the hose, and that old Johnson won't start without a few pumps...
