I ordered a new keel winch from Catalina Direct. Installed in no problem. But, the problem is that the handle adapter sticks out much farther than the original. This is a real injury waiting to happen. It sticks out beyond the steps about 2 inches. The original one was completely flush. Has anyone had the same problem and fixed it? The winch post with the two flat sides had 2 lock nuts on it. I removed one and left one. I'm considering cutting off an inch or two from this post, but I'm not confident that I'll ruin my new winch. So, how did you fix the problem?

Ours did the same thing!! It is an injury waiting to happen, I have had several cuts to prove it! We just left ours like it was!
