I really liked my boom kicker on my C-22 so I ordered one for my CP25. Catalina Direct Lists #KO7C250 (same as Catalina 250) for boat. It appears the bending rods are 3-4" too long and will have to be cut in order not to interfer with the factory installed boom vang. Has anyone fitted one of these on their boat and can suggest trim length?

Why don't you just move the vang out?

Boomkicker installation guide for Capri 25

Boomkicker Recommended: K0750
Recommended Mast Slide: 3/8in. Round
Top of Mast Fitting from bottom of boom: 26in.
Forward edge of Boom Fitting to back of mast: 26in.
Length between Boomkicker end pins: 36in., Full length.
Spring rods used: Small Rods
Comments: For the Capri we recommend a boom adaptor to fit the extruded ridge along the bottom of boom(Part# B1032). We also recommend a fitting to prevent the boom from rolling on the gooseneck pin(Part# M0751). Contact the factory at 800/437-7654 or info@boomkicker.com for more.

As the mainsheet or vang is tensioned, the Boomkicker flexes smoothly from straight to flexed. The force stays relatively constant as the Boomkicker continues to flex, which helps keep the vang efficient. Each standard model has two sets of spring rods of different diameter and force so you can choose the set that best matches your boom weight and preference for support. The more forceful the rods, the more support for the boom but the harder it is to pull on the vang. In general only about 10lbs should be needed to pull the end of the boom down by hand. The larger diameter or more forceful set is intially installed. If the boat is at the smaller range of the model, switching to the lighter rods before installation is recommended. At their intial length, the rods provide as much as 6 feet of travel at the end of the boom depending on the set up. If needed the spring rods are easily shortened up to 10" with a hacksaw to fit above the vang, with some loss of range.

Ok mates, the kicker was in luff slot, the factory instructions say 23" bottom of boom to top of bkt, 31" back of mast to front of msst bkt. An adapter to fit over bottom of mast "grove" is furnished. The kicker will not work as indicated. Talked to factory today and they admitted they did not know how it would fit CP25 and wanted follow up report on what I found.

If you drill new hole for new boom vang location it will be greater than the 45 degree and would possibly work but cutting the 2 rods would probably be better. The reason for the post is to find if someone has gone down this road. Kickers are nice and I want this to work.

If you order from Direct they also incl #KO750 roll stop. I am not sure this is needed but wouldn't hurt. It was mentioned 10 lb would be enough to hold boom up. With sail on it I think a little more is needed but have not measured it.

All advice and cold beer is welcome.

I installed a boom kicker last year, model booK0750 which I purchased from pyacht.com as they had the best price. I am very happy with it! Initially, I installed the smaller diameter tubes and found them not adequate and replaced them with the larger ones. I cut the tubes so that the kicker fit inside my boom vang. Not sure but I think my vang was factory installed. Will be on the boat again Tuesday if you want measurements for placement let me know, I'll make sure to check this post prior to leaving my office around noon on Tuesday.
