We are planning to remove the standard toilet from the Trader and replacing it with a portable one. Does anyone have any input on replacement styles or brands.

Academy sell a good one - about a 5 gallon holding tank and a well designed junction between the holding and water tanks. I think that I paid $79. I found it to be the largest porta-potti that would fit in the head footprint.

On our C-250, we just installed a Fiamma Bi-pot on the recommendation of one of the C-25 guys on here (drawing a blank on who it was right now). If you search the forum for Fiamma, you should find my installation story. It's got a 5 gallon holding tank, a positive seal in between the tanks, and it's sturdy to use.

We've used the Thetford porta-potti for years. I doubt there's much difference between it and the models from Sanipottie. Defender looks like it has a better selection than West Marine

To be fair we used our Thetford for years as well. It only failed due to negligence on my part, I left water inside the reservoir and it froze, breaking the seal. A replacement part wasn't easy to find and when I did, it was about 1/3 the cost of a brand new toilet, so we opted for the new one. We kept the old toilet, the leak is slow, and if we're out camping or whatever, it's not really a problem, but on the boat we didn't want the water constantly leaking into the head.

I'll share the mistake I made. Since we only day sail, I decided I did not need a big holding tank and went with a 2.5 gallon model (sealand 972 from west marine.) Problem is it is too short. After a day of my 8 year old and his pal drinking about 3 gallons of gatorate, there was a bit of a clean-up issue as their aim while underway was less than stellar.

Teach them that their masculinity is not compromised by sitting down, especially on a rocking boat.

Usually, sites will appear with various companies you can rent from. portable toliets are about the same anywhere you go, so I'd go with the cheapest you can.
