I'm having a trailer made so I can haul my recently purchased C25 out of the water. The manufacturer needs the dimension from the hull bottom to the bottom edge of the fully retracted swing keel. Does anyone know what this measurement is?

Thanks.

MY 82 CATALINA IS ON A TRAILER.
I MEASURED FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE HULL TO THE EDGE OF THE KEEL AND IT WAS 16 INCHES THIS MEASUREMENT WAS AT THE FRONT END OF THE KEEL RIGHT BELOW WHERE THE KEEL BOLTS ARE, HOWEVER SINCE THE KEEL IS WIDER ON THE BACK I ALSO MEASURED BACK THERE AND GOT 21 INCHES.
MY KEEL IS LOWERED ABOUT 1.5 INCHES THOUGH, SO 20 INCHES WOULD BE ABOUT WHAT THE MEASUREMENT WOULD BE IF THE KEEL IS FULLY RETRACTED AND TOUCHING THE FIBERGLASS.
SINCE YOU DON'T WANT TO HAVE THE BOAT RESTING ON THE KEEL YOU NEED TO HAVE SOME EXTRA SPACE DOWN THERE SO THAT YOU CAN LOWER THE KEEL ONTO SOME CROSS BAR OR RESTING PLATE ( I'VE BEEN TOLD IT'S NOT A GOOD IDEA TO REST THE KEEL ON AN AXLE BEWARE)I WOULD SUGGEST NO LESS THAN 25 INCHES TO BE SAFE.
I DON'T KNOW HOWEVER IF THE SHAPE OF THE KEEL ON ALL CATALINA SWING KEELS HAS REMAINED THE SAME. SO MY INFORMATION RELATES TO AN '82 OK!

I JUST WENT THROUGH WHAT YOU ARE DOING BUT RE-CONDITIONING A TRAILER THAT WAS USED ON A MOTOR BOAT. MY CLEARANCE WAS NOT ENOUGH AND HAD TO REMOVE A BOARD THAT SUPPORTED THE KEEL. SINCE THE CLEARANCE WAS INSUFFICIENT THE KEEL RESTED ON THE BOARD BUT I COULD NOT LOWER THE KEEL AND THE BOAT WIGHT WAS PRESSING DIRECTLY ON THE KEEL. NOT GOOD.
I NEED TO REPLACE THE BRACES ON THE RUNNING BOARDS, (LONGER ONES) SO THAT I CAN RAISE THE BOAT A FEW INCHES AND GET THE EXTRA CLEARANCE FOR THE KEEL.

GOOD LUCK

TONY BLANCO.

As an additional comment to the measurements, since there should be a zinc placed where the cable attaches to the keel to prevent the cable from deteriorating, sometimes, depending on the zinc you use, the keel cannot always be retracted fully inside. Sooo... you may consider and extra inch or two for this.
Mine doesen't have the zinc on it and I'm thinking perhaps this could alter the information I gave you.

Just a thought..
