Who isn't. I waiting for this plague to pass, but I too have waisted hours on Facebook when my aft nav light on my sailboat needs replacing.

Focus...

This weekends most important job!

Ray, I couldn't have said it better, but don't look for this "plague" to pass anytime soon. You had better double-up your dock lines for the facebook storm. It's going to be with us for a while.

My dream, truth-be-told, is to be LESS connected, not more connected. But then, as my kids will readily point out, I'm old.

And I shouldn't be doing facebook, when what I need to do is fix my autopilot rudder sensor. Keeps falling off!

Frank, do you sail a Hobie Getaway? I used to own one.

I was on and realized that I wasn't really interested in taking every possible personality inventory or finding out what the letters of my name meant, etc. ad nauseum. So, I stopped. Then, I found out that my son (lives in Europe, never see him) has pictures of my grand-daughter posted on his page. So, I'm back. I still don't care about much of the crap that my college age daughter posts -- maybe I just don't want to know!!!

I am an old dog as I've learned more old obsolete software than new. I still use my palm pilot to back up computers. I'm about ready to skip learning 3 generations of "New" software and wait for the implant.

Somebody push my turbo button.

I also signed up to be able to see somebody's pictures... then one of my daughters posted, "Dad--it's a little weird to have your father on Facebook!" I almost never look, and I've de-friended or otherwise muted the random noisemakers...

I'm on facebook too and find much of it useless. There's no reason to fear the security if you're not using your credit card on it. You simply use what is useful to you and ignore or hide what isn't. It's not an all or nothing sort of thing. I have to shake my head at some of the personal stuff people post though. Don't they realize it will NEVER go away?

Yes - I am on Facebook. I've found it is a nice way to catch up with people I've not seen for years and years. However, it has almost no real value. With respect to security, you do need to be careful. There are tons of facebook scams and a few malware / virus issues that are specific to Facebook.

I am on, I joined to see someone's photos from a race. I hooked up with a couple of friends from high school and college. It's not something I look at often (not like this forum or Sailing Anarchy).

Yes, it's a great, fun sailboat. I suspect the boomless rig is to blame for the poor pointing, but who cares? I could sail it with my kids and not worry about anyone getting hurt on a jibe. The wings made it comfortable, and the front trampoline made it roomy. You can't trap-out with the wings, but you can still fly a hull. Hobie did a great job on that boat, leaky coolers notwithstanding. Lucky you! Where do you sail?

What's a face book?

Actually, I'm a member of this forum, the commander of the USPS local chapter with 40+ members on email, I paddle with a seakayak group that coordinates outings and meetings by email, maintain my participation in the Sunbird sailboat forum, at my marina our "B-dock" group is very active socially and on email - where we are planning a party or other event about once a month, year-round. I am on Linked In professionally and get junk email from Plaxo, and work remotely - so I talk to my colleagues or customers either via phone calls or emails.

I did sign up for twitter but decided it would be too addictive and extremely trite, so all in all I spend way too much time staring at one little screen or another, trying to create just the right combination of these little keys to accurately communicate (B-), keeping our clients in off the ledge (A-) and herding the cats in several different spheres (various grades).

I guess if I didn't have email or the internet, I'd be completely anti-social and a hermit!

Rita & I are both on Facebook (as if my sig didn't give that away). When I first signed up for it I thought it was stupid, I went through some of the "what countries have your visited", etc. quizzes and quickly lost interest in that and all the other quizzes. I've also learned how to kill quizzes, polls, etc. because I couldn't care less. What I do like is the ability to keep up with friends and family and some of the random humor that occurs by the interaction. We also use it for our business, but with all dozen & a half of our "fans", it's not exactly churning out revenue for us. I also help support other friend's businesses by responding to their wall posts with leading questions or statements designed to encourage interaction with their fan base. Anything I post gets seen by everyone who is friends with me, so if I post about my friend's bar, they may be interested in whatever his current promotion, and post as well, then all their friends see that post, the math gets into a geometric progression very quickly and helps drive business to them.

I sail in Kansas (people of the Southwind)

I have not taken any polls, questionnaires, or done anything on facebook other than interact with friends and reconnect with people that I am happy to hear from,so far it has been fun. It sure makes sharing photos easy.

I'm on facebook and it's been a really good way to reconnect with friends that I thought were long gone. I completely ignore all the apps like "So and so has passed you a beer", you can block them which I do.

I post a bunch of sailing pictures on there and actually set up sails with other friends that I know who have facebook.

There's derivative community called boatbook that I joined as well that just doesn't seem to do anything.

For those of you who are "face bookers" send me a message and we can friend up and be sure to check out the album "Sailing and other pirate like activities!"

It's pretty epic stuff.
